So I’m gonna keep it brief: EVERYONE is welcome at pride to express their sexuality and to (in the spirit of the riot that started PRIDE in the first place) spit right in the eye of the established ideas of “appropriate “ sexual behavior.
Kids are people and you should talk to your kids about sex and consent and pride and safety and all that great stuff. That doesn’t mean you take your toddler to the middle of the man-pit. It means you take them outside in a world full of literal danger, predators, toxicity and hate and you TEACH THEM how to live in that world. Parents are so afraid of speaking to their own children (no matter their age) about ANYTHING pertaining to sex that young people are growing up with acces to all kinds of sexual content but with no safe place or person to go to for information about ACTUAL sexual health. It’s horrible and I myself have been taken advantage of because of my lack of education on things like consent and protection.
But plenty of people throughout history and still today (looking at you, Abbot) use children as a tool for their ideology and discard their needs the next second. You know what people used as an excuse to keep movies and television censored of anything even remotely deviating from the leave it to beaver model? Kids.
Why doesn’t America have nude beaches like Europe? Kids.
Why don’t we have a Disney movie with a gay lead? Kids. (And capitalism)
Why can’t we have alcohol at amusement parks? Kids
Why can’t we have nude beaches? Kids
Why can’t we teach LGBTQ history in schools? Kids
Why can’t we have legalized weed? Kids
Why can’t we have frank and open conversations about sex? Kids.
The innocence of children is wielded as a weapon to cut down anything that challenges the norm. People see deviation and innocence as extreme opposites that could never coexist in society and we MUST fight deviance in the name of innocence.
But the thing is, literally every nation on earth has kids. Yet not every nation has the same sexual hangups as America. American culture is closed-minded, quick to anger and greedy for convenience.
And there’s nothing more convenient than pushing things that make you uncomfortable as far away from you as possible.
That’s it. That’s all I had to say.
