What’s more striking than the obvious V symbol that’s become iconic along with the Guy Fawkes mask, is the Warner Bros logo in the bottom right corner.
The Bewcastle Cross is an Anglo-Saxon cross which still stands in its original position within the churchyard of St Cuthbert’s church in Bewcastle, Cumbria. The cross, which dates from the 7th-8th century, features reliefs, images of Christ and John the Baptist as well as inscriptions in the Anglo Saxon runic alphabet which translates as “This slender pillar Hwætred, Wæthgar, and Alwfwold set up in memory of Alefrid, a king and son of Oswy. Pray for them, their sins, their souls”.
A beautiful Cumbrian Anglo-Saxon cross, but perhaps not as intriguing or mystifying than the Anglo-Norse Gosforth Cross in the west of the county.
“Report of Vladimir Lenin”, artist L. Shmatko. Soviet postcard from 1958.
In all artwork of him, Lenin always looks like he’s patronising everyone.
Hilarious Map Proves That Every City Is The Same Damn Place
This is actually pretty much word for word a map of Newcastle-Gateshead. Shit.

Ludwig Wittgenstein || Culture and Value (via socialist-syndicate)
Strange to think this man of such philosophical and intellectual stature lived only a few doors down from where I live now.
…Gentleness is stronger than severity, water is stronger than rock, love is stronger than force.

Red deer stags in front of Beinn a’ Bha’ach Ard in the Highlands of Scotland - by Gavin MacRae on Flickr.
The self-confidence of the human being, freedom, has first of all to be aroused again in the hearts of these people. Only this feeling, which vanished from the world with the Greeks, and under Christianity disappeared into the blue mist of the heavens, can again transform society into a community of human beings united for their highest aims, into a democratic state.
