Ok, so I managed to capture a sneaky clip of musical theatre teacher Alex having a post academy rehearsal! We are SO proud to have such a fantastic team at PQA Richmond and I just had to share this! #Talent #Singing #Teaching #ThePQAWay #Inspiration (at PQA Richmond)
It is wonderful to see students who have been with us from the start grow in skill, knowledge and passion and boy, this person is doing us all very proud. Well done, Jack! #WatchThisSpace #PerformerOfTheWeek #YoungTalent #BeYourselfBeAmazing #Acting #Singing #Film #HardWork #RedGroup (at PQA Richmond)

Our red group would be amazing on #eurovision2016 !! Today they took to the camera to film some of the creative content for "Out There" - Our amazing show at the Hampton hill theatre on 9th July. #Acting #Tv #Film #Education #Drama #ThePqaWay #London (at PQA Richmond)
"To play a wrong note is insignificant. To play without passion is inexcusable." As a society, we rarely find time to explore our creativity. To sit in a crowded station and play from the heart is to share a gift and it's what I love most about Kings Cross St Pancras station. No strings attached - just a little tune. I admire the courage and talent of those who dare to share their passion, imperfect as it may be, with the world. The above quote was first spoken by Ludwig Van Beethoven. #BeYourselfBeAmazing #kingscrossstpancras #Piano #Music #creative (at St Pancras International)
Congratulations to our poppets of the week, Mia & Sophia. Mia was chosen as every week it's clear that she enjoys every aspect of the class from the warm up to learning new routines. She is willing to help other children in the class despite being one of the youngest. Sophia contributes more and more during the session especially when it comes to performing something individually. Well done girls! It's amazing to watch you grow and progress. đ€ #BeYourselfBeAmazing #Acting #Performing #Singing (at PQA Richmond)
Congratulations, Mr Oliver! Oli brings a vibrant energy to class this week and can always be identified as an individual bouncing in the air with enthusiasm. Oliver only joined us after Easter and already he is well and truly part of the family. Well done Oli, keep up the good work! #HardWorkBringsReward #GetOutWhatYouPutIn #Acting #Singing #Dancing #Film #BeYourselfBeAmazing (at PQA Richmond)
Well done to everyone who visited the academy yesterday! We were so impressed by your ability to jump straight in and go for it. Thank you to my students who were so welcoming (as always!) I was one very proud Principal. This is our green group learning a routine from #Shrek the musical. #Acting #Singing #Dancing #Film #ThePqaWay #BeYourselfBeAmazing (at PQA Richmond)
Tickets are now on sale for our production of 'Out There' at the Hampton Hill Theatre at 2 and 7.30pm on Sat 9th July! #Acting #Singing #Dancing #Musical #ThePqaWay (at PQA Richmond)
"Never forget the two things that apply to all of us, indeed anyone who's trying to make headway in an overcrowded profession: 1. Don't be late 2. It's not fair" We encourage our students to develop punctuality by always starting academy 15 minutes early with assembly. We have a very exciting assembly on Saturday morning to mark our years anniversary. It's not one to miss! (Remember to go all out in fancy dress as a character from a film, tv series, book, play or musical.) There will be a lot of cake. Bring your A game people. 9.45am #DontBeLate! #ThePqaWay #IndustryTips Quote taken from Phil Willmott's article in the Stage: My 10 Golden rules of auditioning. (at PQA Richmond)
"The more skills you have as an actor the more employable you become. Knowing how to play an instrument is a great way of staying in work and maximising your creative skills to earn money." The more skills you can develop at a young age, the bigger the opportunity for parts. The industry is ever growing, ever changing and we really encourage our students to explore playing instruments. From the guitar to the triangle - there is a place for everything! Quote taken from an interview with Jeremy Harrison (Head of actor musicianship at @rosebruford ) #ThePqaWay #IndustryTips #Acting #Music (at PQA Richmond)
âPQA has changed my whole perspective on my persona and who I am. If you look back at me before I joined PQA, I was a different person. At PQA I know that everyone is like me and theyâre not going to judge me on who I am. I now class all of them as my family. Weâre so close.â ------------------------------------------------ "Look at this, Charlie!â I am suddenly surrounded by a swarm of my eldest students, radiating with that untouchable ambition one has within the safety net of youth. They are showing me videos of a dancer, thrown into the silhouette by using the light through the window, oh, and the slow motion button on their iPhone, to make it âarty.â Turns out the prima ballerina in question is one of the excitable students next to me who just âmade this now⊠for fun.â Meet Jade, born and bred in Hampton Court (the hospital, not the palace!) fifteen years old and dreaming of life on a West End stage. Before coming to PQA sheâd always loved performing, even dancing in the 2009 childrenâs variety performance at Her Majestyâs Theatre, âIâve been dancing for as long as she can rememberâ and passed her grade 3 singing exam with distinction). By 30, she intends to be living in a big house in the city, performing in a West End show and inspiring others. Her determined ambition is very contagious and before long I am wondering if all thirty somethings should be checking in for a little pep talk with those still untainted by the âthis is right, this is wrong, lets put you in a generic boxâ educational system and rat race. âIâve recently discovered this incredible singer. Oh my god, sheâs so good. Her name is Bernadette Peters. Iâm listening to her on repeat.â For those of you who are unsure who B.P is, this is the equivalent of Jade discovering Beyonce, Einstein⊠or fire! It seems the timeless impact of great performers really does work its way down from one generation to another. It is this legacy that inspires Jade to work hard⊠âAll of my favourites are divaâs; Elaine Paige, Barbara Streisand, when I watch them perform, I can tell by the way they look around at the audience that theyâre doing what they love. They look so appreciative of what they have and their expression when they sing is just mesmerising to me.â I suggest it could be an inner belief or self confidence that sets them a cut above the rest, âExactly that,â Jade agrees, â I admire their confidence. I can see it.â Ahh. That old chestnut. Interestingly, 70% of my students join PQA to try and improve theirs and Jade was no exception to this statistic. Often, even the most boisterous and extroverted students lack an inner anchor and realistic evaluation of just how good they are. âI wanted the confidence boost when I joined PQA because I didnât really believe in myself. A lot of the teachers at PQA gave me that and now I feel really comfortable within myself. Iâve learnt a lot from Alex especially (Musical Theatre teacher.) Being taught by someone who is so confident reflects on us, we all look up to her as a role model.â We could all take something from Jadeâs motivated work ethic. In her bedroom she proudly displays her mantra, âWhen youâre not rehearsing, somewhere⊠someone else isâŠâ Everyday after school she sings in her bedroom with a mic and amp her Mum got her for Christmas (important essentials for the aspiring superstar!) and often stays late after school to dance. Iâm relieved to hear she also gives herself plenty of headspace, riding her bike down to the river for a little rest, relaxation and âme timeâ. Her no nonsense approach and intuitive creativity will ensure her successful, regardless of her future path. Watch this space! Jade will be playing the part of Jamie in âOut Thereâ at the Hampton Court Theatre on the 9th July 2016.
"Without good all-round body control, you can't act. And yoga develops exactly that... when any actor graduates from a reputable acting school these days, they will have completed, in the course of the degree, hours upon hours of yoga training. And likely they will have recognized the role it plays in their craft and continue it with dedication as a discipline." We encourage all of our students to take yoga class in between breaks from the rehearsal room. Taken from 'Why so many actors do yoga' by Marcus Julian Felicetti #Acting #Yoga #PhysicalHealth #ThePqaWay (at PQA Richmond)
We hope you are out and about enjoying the beautiful weather. DO NOT NEGLECT those vocal folds! Drink plenty of water every single day to ensure a healthy voice. #VocalHealth #Singing #Acting #ThePqaWay (at PQA Richmond)
