I love that the pandemic actually definitively proved a lot of those "hard" questions for us. Masking up reduced cases of the flu to almost nonexistent numbers and we had zero flu deaths for a time. The welfare and social service and unemployment programs helped keep people living paycheck to paycheck out of poverty, and those stimulus checks some folks keep complaining about actually massively benefitted the common man and the economy. Individual personal travel was so extremely restricted on a global scale that we basically have concrete proof that individual restraint in terms of driving cars or travelling means absolutely nothing by comparison because the mass pollution is coming from the fisheries and the corporations with private jets and container ships. Working from home actually has massive benefits for a company like productivity boosts and better mental health of employees while also saving gas
and we're just. Willingly going back to how everything was before. We were shown how to do things better and the people in charge said "that's nice but we just want to get everything 'back to normal' :)"
we’re not willingly going back to how everything was before. we are being forced back into it by members of the ruling class who found out that making things better for almost everyone else made them feel bad.
Let's not forget about any of these things. Let's reblog and schedule this post to pop in in the future to remind us of what we may have forgotten a little.
Do not forget.
My primary takeaway from COVID was "The first thing people did when they had free time from work was they started demanding a better world. The next time this happens the executive ruling class will literally let everyone in the labor class die before they let them have 3 months free time ever again, because they cannot allow that better world to come to be."
Also people, when given the free time to be alone with themselves, will decide to learn new skills and make art and stuff.
So I discovered Evil Xisuma and honestly he is scary but also by extension- is Xisuma, who is a Certified Derp. Love him though, the Sillies.
Rendog will say the gayest shit available to the language and go on like nothing happened

The mainstream media’s “bothsidesism” is slowly legitimizing the neofascism of the Republican Party.
It seems to me that true journalistic integrity would involve telling the truth about one of the “sides,” when it represents a neofascist movement that could literally destroy our democratic institutions.

Victor Frankenstein: I’ve created life but I refuse to put any effort into helping that life develop. I won’t teach him, love him, or defend him even though I forced him into existence with a fully operational adult brain lol. Peace, bitch.
The Monster: Am Eloquent Baby
Boomers: He’S NOt thE ViCtIM, HE’s tHe MOnsTEr
An ironic parallel considering the idea of “tough love” parenting that plenty of boomers like to use. If they buy into the idea that their kids just have to toughen up and face the real world without guidance or emotional support, I’m sure it does scare them to read a story where someone who wasn’t given any support began to resent their creator and turn on them.
it’s like that post that’s like ‘knowledge is knowing that frankenstein is the doctor; wisdom is knowing that frankenstein is the monster’. like the whole point of the post is that frankenstein’s monster is a victim of viktor frankenstein’s own monstrosity.

The sad thing is that MAGA supporters are so caught up in the hate of cultural issues, and they so believe the lies of Trump and other right-wing Republicans, that they don’t realize that if Republicans ever take over the White House and Congress again, that everyone in America, including MAGA folks, will ultimately experience:
Major cutbacks in social programs like Medicaid, Social Security, Medicare, SNAP, etc. that many of them, or their friends and neighbors or extended family need.
Local water supplies that are frequently contaminated.
Increased air pollution and increased extreme weather events.
Limited rights as employees.
Limited ability to feel safe from gun violence anywhere they go (even if they live in blue states) because of federal anti-gun control laws.
Limited ability to assemble and protest anything of which the GOP does not approve.
Limits on their reproductive rights, even in blue states, because of federal bans on abortion and contraception.
Limited ability to read certain books or to learn about certain topics--even at public universities--because of federal censorship of any idea not approved by the GOP.
Limited ability to vote for any politician who doesn’t go along with the GOP program because extreme gerrymandering will be allowed in every state.
Welcome to the possible GOP dystopia.
And MAGA folks will only have their gullibility, willful ignorance, and hatred of “those other people” to blame.
tadc if it had an awesome ending
this is what happened right
untreated reproductive health problems kill trans mascs at a much higher rate than cis women. if you’re not protecting our access to gynecologists and women’s specialists then I care not for your opinion on the subject. “trans men should not be in these spaces!!!!! they’re for WOMEN!!!” isn’t praxis it’s you gleefully siding with the patriarchy and the status quo
happy gay month to the fruit colored ninjas
Wait, so you’re not supposed to leave tampons in too long because the tampons have toxins in them that it takes time to absorb, or because the blood it soaks up was supposed to be carrying toxins out of the body?
hi anon,
those are both incorrect understandings of toxic shock syndrome. toxic shock syndrome is caused by overgrowth of specific types of bacteria commonly found in and on the body, which will in turn release toxins. the version affiliated with tampons, which is probably what toxic shock syndrome is most well-known for, happens because tampons provide a great place for that bacteria to grow.
leaving tampons in longer increases the risk of bacteria growing and releasing toxins, which is why it's recommended to change them frequently. the same is true of anything placed in the vagina for extended periods (no pun intended) of time, including other menstrual collection items such a menstrual cups or disks or forms of birth control such as the sponge or diaphragm, both of which have become less popular with the availability of hormonal birth control.
it's important to stress that toxic shock syndrome stemming from tampons and other devices have decreased sharply in the last few decades, ever since the health risks became widely known in the 1980s, and the majority of toxic shock syndrome reported today is not affiliated with any menstrual complications.
okay this is going to sound nitpicky, but menstrual cups do not cause toxic shock syndrome. toxins released by excessive growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes cause toxic shock syndrome. that can happen whether you use a menstrual cup or not, whether you menstruate or not, in a vagina or not. you are in fact more likely to develop toxic shock syndrome in an infected wound than from a menstrual device.
again, I know this sounds like quibbling, but saying that a menstrual cup or tampon "causes" toxic shock syndrome makes it sound like they're not perfectly safe menstrual collection tools, which they both are. they can very slightly increase the risk of toxic shock syndrome but they aren't the cause, in the same way that... I don't know, people going jogging outdoors isn't the cause of people being hit by cars. there's a difference! important difference!
hey, that's a really good practice! a lot of health and wellness grifters get by using terms that sound scary without being able to back them up at all (or even define them), and it's smart to look out for that.
I'm happy to report that the toxins affiliated with toxic shock syndrome are literally just called toxic shock syndrome toxin-1
funniest shit I’ve seen all day
