Sarah started some sourdough from scratch upon her arrival at my place, and it’s already thriving — I think the secret to having a good environment for sourdough is to be out collecting wild edibles frequently to seed your kitchen with wild yeast, because I’ve had excellent luck everywhere I’ve lived regardless of temperature and climate and the only common denominator is me constantly bringing wild greens and fruit and weeds into the house to eat. Anyway, since we’re all minimizing grocery runs for a while, I wanted to share this list of uses for discarded sourdough starter from King Arthur Flour so you don’t have to waste anything — we’re especially excited about the crumpets, which require no additional flour and just a little salt, sugar, and baking soda to make. Go forth and make some good bread et al.

While I’ve been busy and depressed and so not mushroom hunting much, and blogging about it even less (I have a whoooole bunch of photos from a family trip to Kew way back in November that I haven’t sorted and posted yet), I have been doing a lot of my other big hobby that requires less going outside and energy, so here are a few of my recent bakes :)
We have:
- Apple pie French toast (with apple swan) for my partner’s breakfast. - Tomato, red onion and asparagus mini tarts - Pesto and red onion pastry twists - Mini apple pies - Seeded bread - Tomato and courgette tart - Apple and blackberry pastries
Everything is vegan and everything except the bread is gluten free :)

Hello! Do you know any recipes with pressed flowers? I've seen shortbread but I know there must be more
hey! good question! i think pressed flowers are generally for presentation so i would imagine any sort of baked goods would be nice -- like as cake decoration, or on a flatbread similarly to how these herbs + veggies are placed:
i have also seen them in things like homemade popsicles:
other than that there are some truly delicious edible flowers that are great for making a salad look extra special (could also go in a cocktail for presentation if you drink!) like borage or nasturtiums
i also love a nice simple syrup made with rosemary or lavender or roses, roses are used in a tooooon of recipes! like this rose pistachio and cardamom cake!
they’re out there and waiting to be eaten! just remember if you are foraging to be very certain + go with a guide if you’re not practiced and never pick flowers near a path or that might be sprayed with pesticides!
hope this gives you a lil inspo :)
