look I love Hen so much and obviously this situation is meant to be complex and I do lowkey love how Athena staged a forced intervention bc it's the smallest crumb we've gotten of a family dinner in ages

however I CAN'T STAND how Hen in one breath acknowledged how she deliberately hid her illness, primarily to protect everyone from grieving again post-Bobby, and then in the same breath is mad they didn't ask how she was doing when she was deliberately hiding it!!! like! Okay maybe you were doing it to protect everyone but that concern isn't magically manifesting to you checking in all the time. These people aren't mind readers! And hiding your illness put other peoples lives at risk!

she's valid for being scared and being grieving and missing the connection with her firefam but she's still wrong in hiding it at her first responder job! I stand by my cancelled captain and his cancelled bestie (Mr. Diaz) !!!

eddie has a flower in his hand. he keeps catching sight of buck in the crowd, but he's walking against the flow of the parade and so over and over eddie gets knocked back, falling farther and farther behind. he can never quite reach him but he just KNOWS he needs to

on the way, he finds his abuelo and some more distant ancestors, he finds shannon, he finds bobby, and they all help him make his way through, lightening the resistance of the crowd all around him until finally he reaches buck. he grabs his shoulder, buck turns around, and he's smiling down at eddie who hands him the flower. he reaches out and touches eddie's cheek

eddie wakes up, sees buck unconscious beside him, revives him, and saves them both

not sure if it's been said yet but I do find it fascinating that they didn't actually mention the Madney baby name during the entire episode? I do believe?? He was there and present and obvs Buck talked to him the last few minutes and his initials (kind of?? Why tf a B and not an R?) were on his bedroom wall but I do think it's a Choice™️ that they didn't actually say his name once it's because Bobby is alive and they're gonna retcon that fcking baby name

Maddie received no pushback for telling a caller to kill themselves, Brad saying that his captain hotshots or whatever is going to live so the guy can’t kill himself, “don’t jump” being thrown around at Buck when Gerrard was captain in the beginning and the captain at the end is Gerrard (I know he’s leaving), guy who struggled with suicidal ideation ends up having to sacrifice himself after finally deciding he wants to live, Athena is building her dream home just to lose her husband and sell it, Chimney on top of the roof before the Bobby funeral only for him to appear headed for a job he’s never really seemed like he’s wanted, Hen having a whole episode about being forgotten and it being okay to take up space deciding that she’s not going to be captain actually. guys. I think the recurring theme of the season is that it’s good to give up on your dreams and maybe dying is okay actually.
