fantastic mr fox says something about fatherhood that’s batshit insane and I don’t think the movie actually knows it’s saying it. it just takes you by the shoulders and makes you look square in its eyes and goes “some men should never have been fathers. they are. and they love their children deeply. and they try so very hard. but that doesn’t mean they should have been fathers.” and then just gets up and leaves you with that like you’re meant to be okay afterward
Any thoughts on sylph of blood?
Sure!
So, starting off with the class, sylphs are generally described as healers, or people that fix things, but I like to broaden horizons and suggest them as the second creation class (with the first being maids). While maids make from nothing, sylphs make from the absence of the element, or draw upon the lack of something in order to make something new.
The personality of the sylph is difficult to parse; we only have two and they barely act anything alike. People like to say sylphs are inherently kind, but... well, for starters, I'm not sure if that's quite the word for Aranea. And also saying anyone is inherently anything feels a bit incorrect, to me.
I can say, though, that sylphs are a lot more by-the-book compared to, say, heirs or witches. They feel as though there is a correct way to do things, and everyone likes to do things right, y'know? So even if they're a bit misguided, or end up making awful mistakes, it's usually because they believe, or have been lead to believe, that they are making something better. It makes them a stubborn class, since they're unlikely to be deterred when someone warns them of mistakes they're bound to make with their current mindset.
... Which, coincidentally, is also part of being a player of the blood aspect.
Players bound to this aspect are stubborn in the sense that they don't give up on people- because blood is the aspect of connections to other people. Blood players are the glue of their team- blood is thicker than water, and all. They're the kind to mediate between two party members not because they're impartial, but rather the opposite. They care, so much and so thoroughly, that they want everyone to be well. That does mean sometimes telling people to give up on some relationships, platonic or otherwise. They're very people-oriented, though that doesn't necessarily make them an extrovert; they might just have a few friends they're intensely close to. Really, the word intense does describe blood players well; it's simply that they care a lot, and aren't much afraid to show it (unless they're knights, but knights hide the manifestations of their aspect in themselves regardless of what that aspect may be).
So, a sylph of blood? They'd be stubborn, and wouldn't let their friends run from conflict, and they'd forge friendships off of their own self-righteous confidence, and I kinda look up to those kinds of people, who are wholly themselves around other people and are unapologetic about it. Just. Stay you. Learn from your own mistakes, if you make them, but don't let other people tell you what to do when you've got your mind on something; though, I don't think you need me to tell you that. Be your own amazing brand of a person because you can be the kind of person people look up to for your fierce kindness and care for your people. You've got yourself right more than a lot of the rest of us, but don't let your overconfidence in the power of yelling people into caring for each other get to you and lead you astray.
Really, just learn from self-reflection and be kind when you can, it's the only advice I've got to give to someone as bright and brilliant as a sylph of blood.

the "came back wrong" trope except like... they didnt. like this mad scientists wife died, and so he studied necromancy, brought her back, and she came back and it all worked. like she came back exactly the same as she was before with literally no difference. but the scientist guy is like "oh no... what have i done.... shes Different now!!!! she came back Wrong!!!!" and shes just like. chilling. reading a book. cooking dinner. shes just so so normal but in the guys mind hes like "oh shes soooo weird" but shes just normal

NO its a JOKE and YOU DONT GET IT. ITS NOT THAT DEEP
While she was dead he put his memory of her on such a high pedestal that she could never live up to it alive
alternatively‚ she came back perfectly fine but he thinks she came back wrong‚ because the tragic reality is that he never actually knew his wife
im going INSANE thats MY POST.

tired: mermaids are all women
wired: much like elves, merfolk are mistaken by sailors for being all women because they have long hair and are very pretty
inspired: merfolk actually have very different concepts of gender to humans because they're an entirely different species with their own unique culture
marine scientist: what's your gender?
merperson: what's a gender
marine scientist: like, are you a man or a woman?
merperson: i'm merfolk
marine scientist: no, like, what's in your pants?
merperson: i don't... wear any? i don't have legs?
It’s a biological fact that fish do indeed change their sex to keep the male/female ratio balanced in their school population. So this fluidity actually makes more sense from a scientific standpoint than the silly idea that merfolk are born with a strictly assigned sex like humans.
Merfolk are all canonically genderfluid and we love them for that
Human: (invites merfolk friend to a boat party with their friends)
Merfolk: oh man, there are a lot of women here. Haha don’t worry guys, I got this :) *changes into a man to keep a balance because that’s culturally polite for merfolk*
Human: (spits drink) what the FUCK
FUCKING LOVE THIS
