Has anyone ever attempted to set the world on fire?
It’s probably because there are so many songs about fire?
But it doesn't answer my question, does it?
Has anyone ever attempted to set the world on fire?
Rome wasn’t built in a day, I guess.
Yet most USA cities are being destroyed within a decade, I think.
Just to be rude, you're Flint, right?
Has anyone ever attempted to set the world on fire?
I don’t think anyone’s ever tried literally. But it depends on if you count nuclear war. And also, maybe the Chicxulub asteroid? But that’s even less literal.
Nuclear weapons. You bring me on ideas, young boy. Luckily, I don't have any time left for other fun things to do in my free time. But you're good at answering questions, I give you that. Less boring than most people.
Has anyone ever attempted to set the world on fire?
Someone lit the woods on fire.
That's a start.
Has anyone ever attempted to set the world on fire?
So light ‘em up, up, up?
Yeah. Exactly. I'm surprised, though. People introduce their favourite 'Burn the world' song as soon as I ask them.
Has anyone ever attempted to set the world on fire?
I think th-the world itself might stop them…I mean, there’s always rain falling somewhere. C-considering that Earth is a closed system when it comes to water, it’d be pretty difficult. Especially when you consider that t-technically, 71% of the Earth is covered in water.
Stop enlightening me with facts that prove it wouldn't work I'm aware of that, young boy. You made a fair attempt, though. But does it answer my question? Has anyone ever tried? Those are the question one needs to answer.
→ Dulcet ❅ Eden and Narfi
Eden Pearce did not celebrate Christmas. It wasn’t to say Eden had never experienced the holiday, even as a child in France it happened around her every year, however, Christmas to Eden was just a span of time in which people were either annoyingly jolly, or like her mother once was, terribly depressed and absent. The girl had spent all her childhood alone and Christmas was no different. It was unlikely that her mother would even be at home for the two of them to share shoddy Christmas together. When she was much younger, Eden would decorate their small flat with tinsel and what not, but it was only ever met with her mother’s drunken rage – maybe something bad had happened in her life to make her hate the holiday, but Eden wouldn’t know because they never spoke about it or about anything at all for that matter. As she got older, Eden made her own Christmas traditions, which usually included an early morning walk in the thick French snow. Eden never got lost, she remembered things and places all too well, but in those few beautiful hours she would convince herself that the snow could just cover her up and she would disappear. Her new ‘family’ celebrated Christmas joyously. They were Christians that expressed great joy for the holiday, and although now Eden lived with the elderly mother alone, she still felt it was much loved in the house, the elderly lady’s face lighting up at the lights in church at midnight mass, or the service on Christmas day. These were the parts of the holiday that Eden had grown to almost like, however, every year her three older foster siblings came over. Complete with the ten children they had between them and their terrible Christmas jumpers, Eden was usually considering blowing her brains out for the four days they remained in the house. Christmas in California lacked character, there was no snow and there was no adventure to be had – instead, Eden got boiling hot weather and the “von Trapps” as a stand in family. Since Eden always looked after their mother and cooked the Christmas meal, none of them knew anything about the true state of their mother’s mental health and Eden knew it best stayed that way.
When Narfi Mordcai suggested they spend Christmas together, Eden could not think of a single reason why to say no. She’d cooked the meal, tidied the house and her adoptive mother was visiting a friend of hers – her children not set to arrive until late afternoon. It was luckily that Eden was left in the house alone then, because she was certain that her adoptive mother would be brutally confused and probably distraught when she saw Eden – there was no long hair hanging over her face, her dress did not hang around her ankles like usual and her face appeared bright and almost angelic like. Eden still wore a dark under layer of black ankle boots, tights and a black dungaree dress that hung at the knee like a sixties swing, but had an appropriate knitted cardigan on top, it’s majority cream with a dark wine, blue and purple pattern making her much brighter than usual – she had promised, after all.
Before her foot even made it through the door, Eden had reconsidered a thousand times – usually not too fussed with appearance, her lack of usual attire made her feel almost naked in the garish light of day but something more than that drove her – powered her forwards, and didn’t stop until she was watching him from afar – her creature of the night, her secret friend and only escape. One foot forward, two diverted eyes, three deep breaths and a “Hello.” This was it. Christmas Day.
The pale light which had formed around these times a year didn't bother him. Wasn't it usual to identify, analyze, wonder and be distracted by the absence/lack of colour in the sky, opposite to the brightness that were christmas lights? Yes, it was. But full of might as his research stood, as disinterest opposite of his own thoughts infected other's minds, nothing could compete with the humble truth that he, Narfi, wanted to be interested in a miracle. The sharer of his ideals (more or less; the level of wickedness was possibly divided), the moon to his stars (Oh, the cheekyness must reach a limit somewhere?), the Angel of the night (There it is.). Oh, how the wicked man had longed for a person to be less bored, less ordinaire- equal to his intelligence, perhaps. Had it not been for Nightmare, he would've given up the spark of happenings quite some time ago. Nothing could have possibly interested him enough to stand back from the games he played, the people he cheated, the laughter he shared with him, himself and the Phantom that lingered within him. The people of the bashful Hava Hills had been spared from the additional agony he had in store. They should worship her for keeping him in control.
The cold had no effect on him; after all, didn't he have to deal with a lot worse in the past? Yet it was still a factor to think about, knowing it wouldn't be much warmer where they would go to. Phantom remembered the endless stories that were told at the campfires in the midst of the night; Loki's successions as a trickster, Baldr's endless struggles and final defeat- and not to forget the myth of Narfi and Váli. He shuddered at the similarities it brought with it to his personal story. Cruel. And hadn't he promised himself for the sake of Christmas eve to stop reminding him so? A sigh escaped his lips. The eager boy looked down at himself, instead, hoping it would set himself to ease. It had teased his mind to put on a sweater, but who would he please with it, really? Certainly not himself, even though the joke intended him to do so. No; the clothes he decided to wear were light and comfy, but not unsightly to the eye either. A wool, black coat, a simple scarf and a blue cardigan should do the job. He would've dressed better, however, if it wasn't for the major costs it brought with it. He hadn't found a rich anchor yet which could provide him what he needed, but everything had its time.
But it was when he saw Eden approach, Narfi knew he should have killed a thousand men to deserve a single minute of her time.
As if the Lord, had he existed, praised him for his wickedness. Bright in a way that would leave others dumbfound, it was Eden that shone as radiant as the morning sun. How much he had served and appreciated the darkness around him, it even left him stunned by her appearance. " Woah, Nightmare-" He stumbled over his words, probably making him sound like the stupidest psychopath in the tiny world of psychopaths.
"You look- absolutely incredible."
Has anyone ever attempted to set the world on fire?
So many songs about it, so many questions.
Well my visit to New York went swimmingly.
Whatever you are just lucky you are attractive, so I don’t really care what is coming you of your mouth.
Should I take that as a compliment or a reason as to why you didn't listen? Anyway, I'm glad you do not care. It makes us equals, finally. Of course, none could ever equal another, but whatever.
Well my visit to New York went swimmingly.
Um, Okay fucking weirdo, surprising that you’ve got one of them…Go back to lurking in the night eating people, whatever it is that you do freak.
I love your ignorance. It reminds me of home. Oh, you're going to regret it so badly.
Well my visit to New York went swimmingly.
What kind of fucked up name is that? What have you been working under a theater stalking people like some kind of fucking weirdo?
People gave it to me after I slaughtered their daughters and sons in the depths of the night when they weren't able to spot me, wondering how the 'Phantom of the north' could steal their precious babies with them watching all the time.
Just kidding, of course. A friend of mine gave it to me after I snuck up at her.
Well my visit to New York went swimmingly.
I’ve been around sweetheart. I’m Tessa though, I’m sure you’ll never forget it, and you are?
Clearly I've hid in the shadows well enough as for you not to notice, then. Tessa. Yeah, I won't forget. Please, call me Phantom.
Well my visit to New York went swimmingly.
Thats were I’m from weirdo, I went back to drink a little and tell my mom to fuck off.
Charming. I like the fuck off vibe, though. It reminds me of certain people. Cold people. Distant people. Fucking idiots, and some of them considered friends.
But anyway, I haven't seen you here before. I'm not certain it's the other way around. Who are you?
Well my visit to New York went swimmingly.
Sarcasm? Sarcasm. Still trying to understand the differences once in a while. Some people are hard to read.
Why would you want to go to New York, anyway?
