to me the difference is andrew’s lies are long drawn out slow burn type of lie; he’s been working up that singular lie for basically his whole life so all the smaller lies can easily branch off that one lie of him not gaf

- he doesn’t smile ? it’s bc he dgaf

- he’s not nice to you? it’s bc he dgaf etc

where neil’s are genuine off the dome lies he switches states countries cities every week and each one comes with a new SET of lies not just one but many lies that all rely on each other to work he meets a new person and can randomly make up a whole new set of lies he can say are the truth (like when he met andrew and told him a LIE but packaged it as what was really happening to get andrew on his side)

to me it’s less who’s the better liar (bc it’s neil lmao) and more who can stick to their story longer (which we find out is andrew mostly bc andrew almost believes his own lie as a way to protect himself)

one thing about neil is that he's extremely calculated and genuinely does not give a fuck about 90% of people. and the 10% of people he Does care about he's still willing to manipulate and use for what he views as the best outcome (re: breaking a bone to heal it properly) and i think there's an instinct to downplay this so that neil can be the softer/less intense/emotional one to andrew's uncaring/intense/harsh demeanor bcus there's an obsession in our culture with opposites attract (re: heteronormativity) but it does their dynamic a huge disservice to ignore the Basis of andreil. which is the understanding they have of each other + their reasons + their reactions and how extremely similar they are.

Andrew and Neil sharing a king’s size bed in The Kings Men, those are massive yet Neil woke up and hit Andrew. Neil used to sleep with a gun under his pillow so it’s a reflex to reach for it.

Meaning: Andrew moved closer to Neil ON PURPOSE. Andrew’s hand was under Neil’s pillow.

This was probably the first time Andrew has felt comfortable to sleep in the same bed as someone in years maybe even forever. And he slept with his hand under Neil’s pillow. Neil reached under his pillow looking for protection, and he found it.

You know in the shower scene after Neil is rescued from Baltimore, Neil lends Andrew his own clothes to get dressed in and then Andrew goes back to his room while Neil goes to Dan’s where Matt and Allison are. Andrew could have changed back into his ow clothes the second he was back in his own room, but he didn’t. He could have predicted the stares he got from everyone when he stepped into the hallway in Neil’s clothes, but he wore them anyway. He chose to wear evidence of his “this” with Neil around everyone. Just something to think about.

I love trans Neil headcanons for a number of reasons, specifically how funny it would make how everyone reacts to him having a secret identity is

His father being like “I don’t care that my child is trans, I will respect his pronouns, I’m just going to kill him for unrelated reasons”. Also the idea of him finding out Neil is trans and being like “Oh ok. Your new name is Nathaniel, after me, obviously. Anyway, when you’re dismantling a body your instinct will be to go for the joints, however-“

Riko, and by extension Kevin and Jean, just seamlessly accepting Neil’s new gender into their fucked up codependent evil situationship without missing a beat because Neil’s gender doesn’t matter so long as he’s good at Exy. The others being like “Wait you knew Neil used to be a girl and didn’t mention it?” And Kevin just being like “What does it matter, Exy is a unisex sport, he would be allowed to play either way” and that’s just as far as his brain got

Andrew hooking up with Neil and getting his hands in Neil’s pants and internally going “Well that’s unexpected but honestly still probably only the third most unexpected thing about him” and then just carrying on

And most of all that it would be in character for Neil to not mention it as a narrator because if it doesn’t pertain to Exy, the mafia, or Andrew and Kevin then he’s probably just not even going to consider it relevant

In my eyes the twinyards never become the kind of siblings who insult each other as a love language, there’s too much between them for that to be anything but hurtful. Post therapy, even when they fight, they’re careful to not too genuinely hurt/insult each other.
