“Divine feminine” girl shut the hell up
Saw this just now and thought I’d share here :)
This comes from the book, The New Aradia: A Witch’s Handbook to Magical Resistance, edited by Laura Tempest Zakroff.
I cleaned up a scan of the sigil to use as [my Facebook] cover photo back in June. Glad to see others find my cleaned up version useful, but I also wanted to make sure credit to the origin doesn’t get lost 😄
Ok, so I get a lot of shit for calling low level spells weaker or low level, so here's a guide to actually crafting powerful spells.
What you need to know right off the bat is that you're layering powers on each other, and if you draw on more powers, you generally get better results. Now, there is some level of balance to this, as doing too much can muddle the intent of your spell, but the "too much" threshold is going to be something you learn to use intuition to find for yourself.
So, let's begin! Here are components of your spells to layer on top of each other
The most basic, your ingredients: what are the correspondences of your oils, waters, herbs, candles, and stones?
The time you do it: what day are you doing it? What phase is the moon in? Where are the planets? What day of the week are you doing it?
Location: Are you doing it in the woods? Near a river? Can the light of the moon touch you? What cardinal direction are you facing?
Visualization: While I don't believe intent alone is the driving force behind all magical works, that doesn't mean mental pursuits during your spell work are worthless. Visualization can be an incredibly powerful layer in your spells. What does the magic you're controlling look like? What is it doing?
Who you call on: Will you petition deities, spirits, ancestors, or fae for power? How will you do this?
Symbols: What shapes are your stones? Did you use runes or alchemical symbols? Did you make a sigil? How are your symbols incorporated into the spell?
Energy: Where are you getting the power for the spell? Yourself? The earth? A charged crystal? The spirits you petitioned?
Repetition: How many times has this spell or ritual been done before? An old spell has a lot of power behind it due to the sheer amount of times it has been used. Additionally, how many times do you perform an action or speak an incantation in the spell?
Incantation: what are you saying? Are you speaking to an entity or the earth itself? What language is the incantation in? Is the language related to who or what you're petitioning or is it just the language it was first written in?
Numbers: How many ingredients are you using? How many times will you perform an action? How many crystals/flowers/spoonfuls/candles/etc will you use? Numbers have correspondences.
Colors: Colors have correspondences too. What color is your candle? Your ink?
Tools: What tools are you using? How have those tools been powered or charmed? What have you used them for previously? How old are they? What energies power them?
Traditions: What traditions are you using? Where did the correspondences you use come from? If you're mixing traditions, do those traditions mix well? I do some amount of brauchery, and it doesn't play well with other traditions.
Order: What order do you do things in your spell? Which way do you stir? Do you petition spirits before the spell or during it?
And finally: intent and will. Yes, I'm not a fan of this stuff because tumblr sees it as the end all, be all. However, your intent will guide the way the spell goes, and your willpower is going to get you through anything tricky. YOU have to have the power and knowledge to make the spell work. If you're in a place that is specifically yours (like your house) you have sovereignty and your willpower will decide whether or not entities in the area respect that sovereignty. I could talk for a long time on this but I won't because this passage isn't the whole point of the post
To conclude:
Hopefully this illustrates why a cup of tea isn't the greatest spell when it only includes ingredients and maybe some intent. I know I probably didn't get every component you can add to a spell, but hopefully I got most of it.
Hope this helps someone out there!
BLACK SALT (also known as WITCH’S SALT) is used primarily for protection, banishing, and repelling.
Those uses aren’t exclusive—it has also been known to feature in baneful magics, and can be used in uncrossing rituals.
WAYS TO UTILISE BLACK SALT
To protect your property from negative spirits, people with ill-intent, unwanted visitors, and negative energy: sprinkle black salt around the perimeter of your property.
To both banish any residual icky energy that a person may have left in your home, and prevent them from returning: sprinkle black salt on the front step and sweep it away. If you’re feeling more traditional (and brave!) you can throw black salt at the back of someone that is leaving your home also.
To prevent nightmares: use in a sachet and keep beneath your pillow.
To repel negativity, unwanted visitors, and rumours/gossip: sprinkle generously across windowsills and doorways.
To cleanse your home and keep nasties from entering: add black salt to a floor wash and go ham on your floor. Focus especially on high traffic areas.
To undo a curse, hex, or other form of malignant magic that has been cast upon you: use in an uncrossing oil or powder. Learn more about uncrossing [here].
To alleviate any negative thoughts and feelings that you are carrying: add a pinch of black salt to your bath, or to an oil with a similar purpose that you anoint yourself with.

The staff of TechnoCoven 2020 will be hosting a fundraiser event to raise money for organizations that are assisting the Black community/are associated with Black Lives Matter and for the victims of police brutality. 100% of the money raised will be going directly to these organizations.
We currently have a list of volunteers who will be giving tarot readings, energy work sessions, performing spellwork and leading events, giving out art commissions, and more in exchange for donations. There will also be free community healing offerings for Black practitioners and other practitioners of color.
We are also looking for more volunteers! DM me here or on Discord if you are interested in helping out and volunteering your skills and services. (You must be 18+ to volunteer or donate.)
While the server won't be going live for a while, please feel free to join now to save your spot! And don't forget to mark your calendars for this event.
Please reblog to boost this event! TechnoCoven raised over $1,500 for COVID relief; let's do the same (or better!) for BLM!
This is happening this weekend!!!
Racism, Spirituality, and Witchblr
As a Black witch, it first made me relieved to see so many people in the community band together for Black Lives Matter. Over the past 5 years as a member of the Witchblr community, I have been subjected to numerous acts of racist microaggressions and attacks ranging from slurs being thrown at me, death threats, insults to my cultural practices because they’re different from European witchcraft and folk magic, attempted doxxing, and more because I was outspoken about anti-racist action. And that doesn’t include the many accounts of racism and bigotry that I witnessed secondhand. So seeing the community come together to support BLM made me hopeful that there would be a cultural shift within the community.
But, as time went on, the amount of support for BLM that I saw in the tags slowly began to dwindle as if the movement had some hidden expiration date for allies, as if all the work was done after the mass spells performed on the eclipse.
The work is far from over, witchblr. We still need to protest, sign petitions, donate, and do our part to end police brutality, defund/disband the police and abolish prisons, and address the systemic racism that exists in all facets of society.
To look “locally,” the same problems in our community still exist. And while we alone cannot eradicate racism from the whole of society, we can absolutely prevent its spread on witchblr and in other spiritual/occult communities.
Being an ally means more than posting a black square on your Instagram page or changing your profile picture to “heathens against racism.” Being an ally means actively being anti-racist and doing your part to ensure the community is truly inclusive and safe for people of color.
So, how can we begin to address the problem of racism in the spiritual communities both online and offline? Here are a few tips. I’ve focused largely on how white allies can address racism as it impacts Black practitioners, as I can only speak from my own experience as a Black person. Other people of color of all races are welcome to add onto this.
Stop supporting cultural appropriation. I don’t care if they’re your favorite blogger, your favorite diviner, your favorite occult supply store, etc, but if they’re posting about hoodoo sweetening/honey jars and they’re not Black, it’s time to block and unfollow. If they claim they speak for the Orisha or the Lwa and they aren’t initiated, it’s time to block and unfollow. If you don’t respect our cultural practices, you don’t really respect us.
Educate yourself on non-European practices. Did you know that there are more ATRs than just Lucumi, Vodou, and hoodoo? Can you explain the difference between Voodoo/Vodou and hoodoo? What is the difference between hoodoo and witchcraft? If you can’t answer these questions, time to do some reading! Educating yourself prevents you from appropriating or saying/spreading ignorant misinformation.
Stop supporting spiritual/occult organizations that act as performative allies and/or refuse to explicitly support practitioners of color. That means covens, fraternal organizations, Discord servers, pagan temples, conventions, and other spiritual organizations (large and small.) Don’t donate to these groups and don’t attend these groups or their events.
Amplify the voices of Black practitioners. How many Black spiritual/occult authors, diviners, bloggers, podcasters, astrologers, priest/priestesses, and/or vloggers can you name? How many African or Black philosophers can you name? Our voices and contributions to religion, spirituality, and the occult matter. Listen to us.
Deplatform racists. If you are a moderator or leader of a spiritual/occult community, delete/ban/kick out anyone who expresses racist or bigoted ideologies. Defending racists under the guise of “freedom of speech” just allows them to spread their hate and potentially harm or traumatize POC. Even if you’re not in a position of power, refuse to engage with bigots to prevent their message from spreading. Don’t reblog their posts, watch their videos, buy their products, etc. If you can, spread receipts of their racist acts instead.
Stop speaking over practitioners of color. If we say that something is racist/appropriation/insensitive, listen to us instead of arguing in an attempt to “save face.” We all make mistakes. Just own up to it and do what you can to fix the situation. Attacking us just because we demand equal respect is an act of racism in and of itself.
Support Black-owned businesses. Instead of buying your herbs from Amazon, go to a botanica. Get readings or other metaphysical services from Black diviners. We deserve to be compensated for our labor. It’s the least you can do considering a large chunk of modern folk magic is inspired by, influenced by, or straight up stolen from Black spiritual practices.
De-center yourself from the conversation. Cool, you’re an empath or a “sensitive”, but venting all day about how much pain you’re in is honestly insulting. And, if you want to rant about all the racist things your family has done, maybe go to one of your other white friends instead of forcing us to listen to you repeat their racist garbage.
Acknowledge your own biases and privileges. There are tons of resources out there on white privilege, white fragility, and unconscious forms of racism. Educate yourself.
Keep up the work outside of witchblr and spiritual communities. Keep donating, keep signing petitions, and keep using your platform for anti-racist action.
These points are only the tip of the iceberg. Racism is so deeply embedded in our society that it won’t be removed overnight. But if you want to claim the title of “ally,” you need to join in and continue doing the work. Unlike you, we don’t get to “opt out” of caring for the movement as racism impacts us every single day of our lives. Don’t opt out on us now.
Reminder that rejecting / leaving behind organized religion does not excuse you from being descriminitory or having privilege over marginalized religious groups such as Muslim or Jewish folks. You can be pagan or atheist and still be antisemitic. There’s nothing about being pagan or athiest that makes your antisemitic or anti-Islamic behavior any less bigoted.
All of us white allies need to step the fuck up and put our money where our mouth is. Which means donating, signing petitions, actually going to the protests, using our voices to uplift black voices, the things that people of color have been telling us to do for years. We can no longer pay lip service to progress while actually hindering it.
To sign a petition to charge George Floyd’s murders, text Floyd to 55156 and share it further using email or on Facebook. There are a bunch of other resources circulating on here with links to donation funds to bail out protestors and to help the victims families. Check in with your community to find where protests are, and attend them if you’re physically able.
i just got out of this weird neo pagan faith that i hated and i think traditional witchcraft is the path for me. lots of blogs ive read thru say i should have a court of spirits. and that they will teach me. does that mean ancestors? (which i know nothing about im adopted), demons? familiars? a deity or god? and how would i go about contacting them. what precautions should i take? what is the price i pay for receiving help and learning from spirits. is it normal to be so nervous?
Okay, there’s a lot here, so I’m going to break it down piece by piece so it’s easier to follow.
I’m glad you managed to get out of a faith that you did not find fit you well, and that you’re interested in traditional witchcraft.
You’re not really creating a court, you’re creating relationships with spirits. These can be ancestors, local land spirits, witches who have come before, familiars, or any number of things.
Being adopted is not an issue. You can call on your adopted ancestors, your biological ancestors, or both.
While some traditional witches work with demons, much of that sort of work is ceremonial and goetic, not witchcraft. If that’s how your path leads, of course, it is fine and perfectly acceptable, but not particularly easy or even common.
Deity work is another one of those you can but moments. Witchcraft tends to have a much more dynamic and bargaining system, which deities tend not to appreciate as much. Many traditional witches are secular, while still others don’t incorporate their gods and deities into their craft, and still others do. It is yet again a choice, but again, not the most common. Witches largely negotiate and deal, supplication or service generally requires something of value for us.
Contact usually starts with offerings and patience. It is not a short practice. You need to prove yourself to them, that you mean what you say, that you are worth the time.
Precautions generally mean not jumping in too fast. Think everything through. If you are offered anything, learn to negotiate. Figure out what you are willing to pay and what you are willing to offer, and what you want for these things, be careful with your true name, whatever it might be.
I cannot tell you the price. That is something between you and the spirits. It varies for everyone. Traditional witchcraft is not a monolith. It is individual. The things that matter to you might not matter to anyone else.
It is completely normal to be nervous. Take time to think through any and every deal. Agree to nothing unless you are absolutely sure. You have all the time you need, and if there is a time limit, back out. Do not let yourself be pressured.
Wonderful advice!
Five Ways Reversal Sigil
You have my permission to use this sigil to protect yourself. If you need it, read the description and methodology below.
This sigil is a powerful reversal working. Whenever someone, in thought, word, or deed, projects harm in your direction, this sigil is triggered if you have it openly displayed. This means that even if someone thinks a hateful thought about you, they receive that thought back to the power of five and in five different ways.
Remember sci-fi space battles, where one missile splits into multiples, each with its own payload, trajectory, and speed? That’s what this is: five ways of reversal to the fifth degree of intensity based on what was sent.
The sigil can be on your altar, on your blog, or even on your school folders, etc. You can redraw it, paint it, print it out, or reproduce it any other way you like. It was created by me and contains a servitor, named WRNSTCPDVL. However you pronounce that is its name as revealed to you.
It only works in reversal. So it’s defensive in nature. But once it’s triggered, it punishes the target ruthlessly. If you need it to work multiple times because multiple people are trying to harm you, carve the spirit name into a red candle and burn that candle directly on top of the sigil. That is how to reset it. The candle can be small and you can do this to reset the sigil even if it is on your blog (i.e. print it, burn the candle on the printed version).
Don’t set this reversal trap unless you are sure you won’t feel bad about someone coming to five real tangible forms of harm as a result of their actions against you. You can’t take this back or wipe it out once it’s set up. And what it does will be brutal; though there is no way to time or foresee how it will happen (which is part of its effectiveness).
It is, however, completely fair: the five forms and five degrees of intensity will be based on the intensity of what was sent to you in the first place plus “interest” for the stress and dread caused by the situation and the effort you had to take to set the trap in the first place.
Why five forms? Because most people can protect against one or two reversals, but rarely will they have the magical tech to defend against five. Why five degrees of intensity? Same reason. Here’s a clue how the reversal’s trajectories of manifestation might work; though, it’s more complicated than just this:
If you set this trap and someone unexpectedly triggers it, you will be able to feel that this has happened in most cases—if you aren’t sure, clear your mind and ask, “WRNSTCPDVL has someone triggered the trap?” Then wait for an answer, which might come as a feeling, as a sense of knowing, or as an actual audible message. If this has happened, just reset it as outlined above.
I hope you never have to use this. You can set the trap and it will never expire or decrease in potency if it is never triggered by someone’s aggression. But if you need to protect yourself from further emotional harm, from the ongoing assaults of a bully, or from curses, this will serve you well.
I have mixed feelings about this, but I also wish I had this about a year ago when I was fighting someone’s ruthless curse against me.
Seems it could be useful thooo and it doesn’t feel malicious.
I understand completely. Having mixed feelings about the reversal sigil is good. It means you’re not crazy or utterly self-centered. I always have mixed feelings about work like this. But it scales according to what was originally sent at you. And that is the built-in control that makes it non-malicious. That said, reversal magic is not the only way to respond to aggression. So anyone who uses this has to ask themselves whether they think this form of defensive magic is right for them.
Hear the winds of Lugh Rushing along Through the leaves And tinkling chimes with a whistle and roar A master of music Making use Of all things In his path and in ours Hear him now right here Hear the winds of Lugh
