I'm all about ponies, Spirk, Polytrix, other random stuff...Although lately, my brain got hyperfixated on Invader Zim, which has infiltrated my thoughts.
Quick thing about the zadr age gap thing. My opinion - It's bologney! You mean to tell me a grown alien man is obsessing over the attention of a 12yr boy and going to school with him?... Anyways, I have my own grown up versions of them, in which Dib is 22 and Zim is equal age.

Easy answer. They become women. They have a competition which of them have bigger boobs. Then their boobs get bigger and bigger until they explode. Then the boob juice floods the entire planet, creates pools of water in saharas and deserts and fixes the global warming in Europe.
Imagine them fighting, but then Dib ties Zim's shoelaces, because he's never worn human clothes therefore can't tie his shoes properly. Then Zim expect him to tie his shoes from now on.
What is their relationship like after they started “dating”? Like what would a typical day for those two look like? Also do they actually have feelings for each other Ooorrrrr?
They will have different stages, like at first it's only one sided, where Zim is only fake dating him as a way to shame Dib in public. Example, calling him gay, wearing flashy clothes and buying him flowers and chocolates. All in his own Zim fashion.
Then Zim acts entitled to Dib's house (because he owns everything that is his now), and starts treating his living room like a new playground. Eating food from his kitchen, stealing clothes, doing laundry (even though Dib does his laundry perfectly fine), he repaints the walls at some point and decorates everything (cause that house is too plain for Zim's liking). He also calls Dib 'boring' for working all day and not having any fun hobbies and forces him to watch movies all evening, every evening. He goes on runs with him, and also watches him cook, not helping him with the cooking but just waiting for him to be finished, snatch it and eat it all.
Their day is going to college, and then later in the evening watching movies. Zim, even though he practically moved into Dib's house, can't spend too much time outside of his base, because the Computer is already hostile towards Zim.
Dib is really passive, but slowly starts to get more and more annoyed. Especially when Zim puts his head on his shoulder, because he owns it now. It's his breaking point...Dib makes up a brilliant plan that will make Zim leave him alone and that is acting overly affectionate. Calling him nicknames like honey and darling, hugging him, snuggling on the couch. Telling him he owns him too. Zim finally gets the attention he craved for, but sometimes it's a bit too much to handle.
And they are both creepy in their own ways. Like when they lay close to each other Zim smells Dib's hair and takes some of it. Dib loves the taste of Zim's blood and it takes a lot of strong will for him to not go all crazy and vivisect Zim, because he's morbidly curious about him, from things like seeing his organs to the taste and everything. Even though Zim secretly loves the idea of being in Dib's basement and be used as a lab rat by him. Because he's his alien that he found and noone else's.
After a while Zim starts to wonder why Dib signed the contract, because he doesn't have any interest going to his house at all...When he points this out to him, Dib immediatly goes to his house the next day like 'woaah, i've totally never been here beforeee'. But then he goes into his new room where he actually hasn't been before and he's shocked to see how much Zim is into hobbies and it kind of shifts his view on Zim.
Feelings for each other? Hmmm...I don't know. It kind of feels like possessive or undying love or more like...Eternal lust or something. But yeah, there could be some feelings...
in your AU zim and dib are hostile to one another at times, it makes me wonder what are they like behind closed doors. Or, what are their soft moment like? if they have any lol
So I have finally figured out most of my AU - I still don't know how to call it yet. Fake date AU? TT
Ok, their backstory is important, sit down for this one
I am a horrible writer so sorry in advance
backstory for context /// The whole animated series is kind of like 'canon' in my story (still haven't read the comics). As children they bullied each other. Dib going as far to collect Zim's skin samples, trying different poisons on him, etc., cutting off his antenna's with scissors and keeping them as a trophy, and Zim liking the thrill of Dib chasing him all the time, admiring his cruelty.
The movie is just too sanitized to work with, so I rewrote it a bit to fit my story - Zim teleports the Earth and creates the Florpus Hole. His goal is to annihilate all humanity, cause he wants to prove just how evil he is. And instead of Dib, Gaz and Professor Membrane going on this whole family movie journey with the whole peace day happening, it's only Dib who deals with saving the earth, all alone. His dad isn't present at all.
In short, Zim, as all the chaos is happening, manages to almost kill Dib. And as Dib lays unconsious under his feet, thinking he actually did kill him, a feeling of guilt starts to set in. So Zim panics and chooses to save the Earth (and Dib)....But unfortunately he couldn't save his Tallest, who are now dead.
When Dib wakes up in a hospital, he triumphantly exclaims to everyone he saved the Earth. But nobody, not even Gaz, seems to remember the incident. Only Zim, who is feeding Dib's delusion that he did save the Earth - because Zim feels like a 'coward' that he didn't go through with his evil plan - Dib feels like he's going crazy. He loses his childhood spark, spirals into a sort of psychosis and his father institutionalizes him inside an asylum, where his mental illness worsens. He gets mistreated. Skip to him getting out, 'cured', living in his grandmother's house alone, working for the Swollen Eyeball full time, feeling resentment towards his father. In short, he isn't the violent crazy kid anymore, but a 'normal citizen'. //// backstory over
Now their relationship is mostly one-sided, where Zim seeks Dib's attention. Coming to his house, stalking him to his college, putting wasabi into his food, or dying his hair and nails a pink color in his sleep - nothing too violent, more like playful and attention seeking. Dib is angry at him, but only fights back verbally. Saying they are not kids anymore, and he doesn't care about earth anymore so he can just kill everyone if he wants to now.
So let's start with Zim...I've made my own fan-version of Irken society. There is this Protocol the main AI in the Computer made for everyone to strictly follow. If the Irken doesn't follow it, they are deemed defective and should be reset (killed). This Protocol bans any kind of emotions like joy, empathy, sadness and guiltiness. And that is exactly what Zim has been feeling since the florpus incident.
(Also a big note - Irkens have developed into a 'perfect' society, where they reproduce artificially and don't have reproductive organs. But Zim was born with them, because he got born 'wrong'. Zim resents that part of himself. It's his biggest secret. He has also told Dib, he isn't able to feel love nor affection towards anyone nor anything, that he is just a cold heartless tyrant)
The Computer Zim has in his house, is a complete opposite from the one in the movie. He's an evil AI, who is under the strict guidance of the Protocol, and watches everything that's going on with Zim via his PAK. Zim tries to learn human art like playing the drums, writing songs, painting, sewing, watching movies, listening to music (Zim loooves music), etc., using the excuse it's all for 'human research'. Because anything 'fun' is against the protocol. Zim hates being inside his house, but if he's stuck there, he's crying or snuggling up with his plushies. He made a whole bedroom, where he has all his belongings and a comfortable bed, where he only lounges cause sleeping is against the Protocol too (it's deemed as lazy).
Now Dib...Everything that Dib does all day and night is work, and if he's not working, he's doing homework. His workplace is in the basement, where he keeps all his documents in cabinets, has monitors where he watches activities from the cameras he set up around the forest and his house, he has a pinned moth collection, a human skeleton, strange remains, haunted stuff, photos. He also has chemist tools and a dissection table.
He's not completely alone, he does have lab mice that he got sent from his father as a sorry (that he could 'train science things on') and cuddles them when he feels sad. He's excluded everything fun from his life. Like books, movies, music, and researching aliens (he only does stuff the Swollen Eyeball would approve of). He has locked all his research on Zim in a cabinet, and resents everything involving space travel. The only thing he deems fun is going on runs and exploring abandoned places.
And then Zim comes up with his most genius plan, and that's asking Dib to fake date him. The deal is Zim practically owns Dib, but in return, he has full access to his base. Which Dib agrees to. Zim makes him sign a whole dating contract, and when Dib signs it Zim is just like (ᵕ • ᴗ •) 'woah this idiot actually signed it huh...'
I also FINALLY figured out how Tak plays a role in all this...But it's a secret

Honestly, I've always struggled to find my own art style, but also struggled to find a specific media or artist to take inspiration from. I just kind of draw, guess and then see what I'll like. But now that I've lost my animation job and don't spend each day and night animating a children's cartoon with animals, my brain is HUNGRY for some human anatomy and practice. And also for some animeee
In the past I've studied styles like Disney, because I wanted to become a character designer in the animation realm. A mix of realism and stylisation has always been my goal. And now I'm getting into anime and manga again. This month I've completely fell in love with that retro - gothic - overly detailed clothes - heavy accesories - crazy hair - dramatic eyes and expressions art style. I've always loved Soul Eater and Code Geass. I've just finished watching Shiki again this month and I loved it. And now I'm watching Trigun. Next Vampire Hunter D and Trinity Blood are in my watchlist. If I could learn that level of style I would be the happiest person alive.
Now when I see my older art I completely nitpick every single thing >:D Especially proportional wise. Although the pointy nose and chin will never be my thing.
I still study films like Atlantis The lost empire, Treasure Planet, Eldorado and the artist Ami Thompson, who makes amazing expressions while staying true to the likeness of a character! Aaahh when will that be me
My favorite pieces of media that I don't base my style on but still inspire me are My Little Pony (all hail my pony collection on the shelf), KDH, HTTYD, Monster High, Laika movies, Gravity Falls, and now ....dramatic drumroll.... Invader Zim! :D
I also take inspirations from games like Alice:Madness Returns and Psychonauts...I am yet to explore more gothi, sci-fi or steampunk games 🥹
