Britney Spears in a 1999 interview
Supernatural is back and so am I
Multi-award-winning actors Michael Sheen, OBE (Masters Of Sex, Passengers and films Home Again and Brad’s Status) and David Tennant (Broadchurch, Doctor Who, Jessica Jones) lead an all-star cast in Good Omens, a six-part humorous fantasy drama for BBC Two.
Michael McKean (Witchfinder Sergeant Shadwell)
Talk us through your character, please…
I really like Shadwell. You can’t get any better than playing someone who is destroying evil. The sign on his door, says: ‘Defy the Foul Fiend’ - words we should all live by, especially at the next Presidential election!
How does he become embroiled in this story?
He has stumbled onto this huge event. He doesn’t know that Crowley is a demon and that Aziraphale is an angel. But he is full of good intentions. Life in general is a mystery to Shadwell, but he feels he is doing the Lord’s work. When he meets Beelzebub, he’s terrified. But he knows he is on the right side, so he is willing to ride out that terror and go into action. He is eventually cornered by events into doing the right thing. Redemption is always our favourite story.
How does Shadwell’s relationship with Madame Tracy unfold?
He is clueless in that department. He has no inkling that things might develop with Madame Tracy. He simply goes with her towards the abyss. They are part of the same squad and become like office colleagues. It’s only when he is faced with extinction that Shadwell realises that he would take a bullet - or a lightning bolt - for Madame Tracy. That’s when it dawns on him. When the stakes are so high, he realises that this is about how to sidestep the end of the world and save her. He says: “I’m not going without a fight, and you’ll have to go through me to get to her.”
What has been your experience of collaborating with David Tennant and Michael Sheen?
They are both genuinely angels, but don’t tell David that - it might put him off his character! It’s wonderful to be working with actors whose work you’ve already loved and then to find out that they’re fabulous people as well. David and Michael are so much fun to watch together. The first day I saw them filming, I thought: “There’s the money right here. They did not get this wrong.” You couldn’t imagine anyone else in those roles.
Do you have to play it entirely straight in Good Omens?
Yes. One of the reasons the movie The Death Of Stalin is so hilarious is because the characters are so serious. John Cleese said that farce is what happens on the worst day of your life. I was in the comedy Clue, an adaptation of the board game Cluedo, and the director Jonathan Lynn said: “This has to be a hundred percent real.” It’s exactly the same with Good Omens.
Have you enjoyed working with the director Douglas McKinnon?
Absolutely. The scale of this production is awesome, but what really impressed me is the fact that Douglas is so calm. He’s such a jovial guy. He’s exactly the person you’d want at the centre of the storm. It’s not like making a regular series. It’s a six-hour movie!
Apparently there’s this gif of Richelieu doing the little wave at Louis Armadeus and my heart is shattering this is cute
Peter capaldi 😍 Just the best
Been watching the Capaldi era on DW because I clocked out a little before his appearance and I gotta say, his chemistry with Coleman aka Clara is kinda amazing. It’s believable. This chemistry is on a different level than with Smith.
Just saying! 🤷🏽♀️
there is a distinct difference in being nice vs being kind. niceness is reactionary, an extension of societal imprinting related to appearing civilized and pleasant. it’s automatically saying “hey, how are you?” when greeting someone.
kindness is very different, it looks like saying, “hey, last time we talked you mentioned [thing], what happened with that? did you get it figured out?” it comes from a place of sincerity and fosters genuine intimacy between you and others.
reasons to love harrison ford
1. hates donald trump 2. got his ear pierced at claires because why not 3. legit asks people to beat him up in action scenes EVEN NOW AS AN OLD MAN 4. is arguably one of the most iconic star wars characters yet couldnt give less of a crap abt star wars 5. the universe tried to kill him (or at least permanently incapacitate him) twice in 2015 and it only mildly inconvenienced him 6. flies helicopters in search and rescue missions 7. was in his 40s for the majority of the indiana jones series which is insane when you think about all the stunts involved 8. quote “the director yells cut and harrison cracks open a beer and then builds a fucking shed” 9. arguably sexy 10. points angrily and its super effective
11. is just a really sweet person 12. no really my dad worked with him on firewall as the tech advisor and he was just a really swell guy 13. got my mom’s birth date from my dad and sent her flowers 14. he sent my mom flowers for her birthday 15. he didn’t even know her he just wanted to be sweet
this was a beautiful and necessary edition to this post thank you oh my god
Awwwww

When he was asked to be in Jimmy Kimmel’s “I’m Fucking Ben Affleck” video, in which he pulled up alongside them in a car and gave Jimmy a little wink and an air-kiss, when he showed up at the set he looked kind of put out. Kimmel was afraid he wasn’t down with what they were asking. But he just said, “I don’t know, this wardrobe…don’t you have anything mesh that I could wear?”
When he was filming “Witness” he rented a small farm from a friend of mine. At the end of the filming my friend went and checked out the property as usual. He noticed the barn door had been leveled so it no longer would swing open on it’s own. Went into the house and saw the closets had been redone, in the kitchen the cabinets had been replaced and all the drawers now opened really well. Turns out that there were thousands of dollars of work and materials put into fixing up everything at the place.
My friend called Ford and asked him how much he was asking for the work. Ford told him doing that kind of thing helped him relax and stay sane when he was filming. Would not take a dime. Plus he paid for a new water heater and got the sewage system cleaned out.
And he paid rent to live there the entire time.

“My cousin Helen, who is in her 90s now, was in the Warsaw ghetto during World War II. She and a bunch of the girls in the ghetto had to do sewing each day. And if you were found with a book, it was an automatic death penalty. She had gotten hold of a copy of ‘Gone With the Wind’, and she would take three or four hours out of her sleeping time each night to read. And then, during the hour or so when they were sewing the next day, she would tell them all the story. These girls were risking certain death for a story. And when she told me that story herself, it actually made what I do feel more important. Because giving people stories is not a luxury. It’s actually one of the things that you live and die for.” –Neil Gaiman

Guys my cat is so polite
Fun fact: My cat does this too and I was curious as to why so I asked the vet. Apparently your cat is hearing the stutter in your heart beat caused by the sneeze and is making sure you’re okay.
