In my desperate hopes of seeing more birds, I’ve started taking my lunch breaks! Previously I didn’t really bother with them because I’m typically too busy to step away. So today I’m walking around outside, Merlin open, trying to spot a Least Flycatcher that has been calling for the past fifteen minutes! This process would be easier if I had binoculars, but I’m starting to get the right area down… when suddenly a coworker comes bounding outside! Never mind that I’m clearly in the middle of something, that simply can’t be important to me. I’m pulled back inside, what she needs cannot wait, it can’t wait for the remaining fifteen minutes of my break to be over.
I made no new observations today, every bird that I was able to spot was one that’s already in my life list. I hope that the Least Flycatcher will be back on Monday, provided I can get a break then to go out and find them.
so staff might be terminating random transfems like dozens of times within a day on pride month and they might be literally taking the trans colors out of the progress flag and they might be perfectly happy letting nazis openly doing constant sexual harassment campaigns with the express purpose of trying to kill the target. but at least they brought pjackks blog back! that makes up for it! happy pride month!
Campaigners say builders’ demolition of nest site highlights weak protection of wildlife from development
“Paul Powlesland of Lawyers for Nature said the protections given to birds’ nests in the Wildlife and Countryside Act were woefully inadequate. “Even where nests are in active use, it’s hard to get evidence of their destruction and the police do not take such crimes seriously.
"We need to change the law to protect the nesting holes of birds like swifts and sand martins even when they are not in use, and set up and fund a proper wildlife police force that takes the destruction of active bird nests seriously.”
