whatever happens happens but sometimes it would be nice if it didn’t happen
— Will Rees, “Kafka the hypochondriac”
Reasons why women don’t want to have children actually:
- lack of affordable and accessible childcare and/or parental leave, meaning that in order to have a kid you have to sacrifice a huge amount of your career and future, and it’s always the woman that does this because of patriarchal norms. It also means women are left by themselves with overwhelming babies whilst their partners go to work.
- lack of affordable and accessible housing. Why would anyone want a baby if they can’t afford to adequately house it?
- the fact that as we (slowly) learn more about the female body people can’t gaslight women into believing pregnancy and birth are beautiful lovely miracles anymore. We know it hurts and we see how other women’s pain isn’t taken seriously while they’re hurting!
- it’s almost impossible to raise a family on one income so while society is trying to push women into returning to the kitchen they don’t seem to realise that that’s fiscally impossible for the majority of people.
-not wanting to introduce babies into a world full of evil that’s more evident than ever. Babies born today will have to tackle climate change, the increasingly dystopian nature of technology, political extremism, etc. these things have largely existed before now but people are more aware of them.
- not being forced to have babies and get married as much for the sake of survival means that women will inevitably try and do other things, which is good!
- we don’t need to have many children due to the fact we can’t make them work in mines/factories/farms anymore, and infant mortality is much lower so people aren’t having insurance babies. My grandpa had 8 siblings and worked in a coal mine. That wasn’t good!
- men aren’t desirable prospects and good prospective fathers. They weren’t before but at least your average male in the fifties earned money and wasn’t addicted to porn. And women can now choose which man they want to be with so they aren’t going to choose men that suck (which is the majority).
Reasons why men and the government think women don’t want kids:
- women are mean and frigid and won’t accept my penis and my babies wahhhh :(
The thing is is that having children isn’t anti feminist in any way imo. It prevents issues like aging population and gives hope that we can raise them to be better than us. Maybe our daughters will escape the oppressive fist of the patriarchy, and maybe our sons will be better people than their predecessors. But instead of actually addressing the issues leading to the low birth rates, they’re instead used as a stick to beat women into submission, shaming them for not fulfilling their traditional role. It’s disgusting.
Yes to everything but I want to just comment on this one part specifically:
“…meaning that in order to have a kid you have to sacrifice a huge amount of your career and future.”
This is going to sound weird, but I think we need to stop saying “career and future” as if these things have value only as individual pursuits.
For one, I think we need to be more upfront that the real reason why your career being impacted is a huge negative is because you risk losing the single most important thing needed to avoid being abused: money.
By not working, you lose financial autonomy, and that is the single greatest threat to a human being’s wellbeing and survival. Without financial autonomy, it’s slavery. Without financial autonomy, you are at high risk of abuse. You can’t escape abuse if you don’t have money.
Now on a collective scale, telling women they’ll find more fulfillment at home is dangerous. It means less women to represent each other in law, government, medicine—literally everything. That’s why it’s important for women to recognize their own potential. Even if you find fulfillment in domestic work, the fact is that women becoming doctors, surgeons, lawyers, and politicians directly benefits other women.
Men need to hear that if they think the current system of both parents working 40-hour work weeks is a detriment to motherhood and the family, then it’s the system that needs fixing—not women.

An average Indian man's ideal married life is my worst nightmare.
Not every woman is a feminist, and not everything a woman does is a feminist action.
They weren’t lying when they said that as an adult you have to fight for your life to practice your hobbies
They also weren’t lying when they said that when you fail to do so your soul shrivels up inside your body and dies
I hope these ladies are enjoying another all women Thanksgiving
female sozialization will have women asking hey am i a horrible asshole for not serving my husband and male family members like a paid servant? is not serving several adult men a multiple course dinner going too far?
do it for her (your female ancestors)
lowkey getting tired of self defeatist blackpill attitudes "the patriarchy will never end" Why not? We went from using boats to rockets in like 200 years but you think men will forever have privilege in society? Why do you think that?
voting was once "impossible". divorce was once "impossible". marital rape being a crime was once "impossible". earning more money than men was once "impossible". being president was once "impossible". getting a phd was once "impossible". all the rights we have were EARNED. it was never easy. right now it's the best time in history to be a woman, even if we have a long way to go.
even after millennia of oppression, women have quickly caught up. we are better at studying, better at working, better at driving, we balance work inside and outside the home in ways men could never dream of, we foster communities, we create great art, we are all around better than men even with their boots on our necks.
this is worth putting up a fight for because it is working.
