A nice smelling home
How nice it is to have a home that smells nice. Like Iāve said before, for me, to make a living space a home, you need to use all your senses.
First thing, keep your living space clean. Be especially thorough when you deal with food leftovers. Donāt ignore dirty laundry (even kept in a closed basket) or dirty dishes.
Empty your trash regularly even if itās not filled : especially in summer. Here we separate our perishable/organic waste from the rest. So itās easy to get rid of what spoils and smells bad.
Air your living space daily for at least five minutes every day. Itās good for the health and gives a good scent to your home.
Flowers and plants can make a room smell nice but be careful about changing the water and getting rid of dead leaves.
I prefer incense to air freshener as I donāt want too many chemicals in the house. However I use coal made for that purpose and I use organic incense or oud. Donāt overdo it if someone in your home is asthmatic or you have small children or pets.
Adding aromatic herbs such as rosemary or thyme to boiling water can make your home smell fresh and purify the air. You can even add rose petals or lavender.
I use essential oils to clean the house in very small quantities. One should be careful when using them but they are a good way to make a home smell nice.
Home made rose water or lavender water is great to wipe counters or walls or even to clean the floor.
I like scented candles but once more Iām concerned about chemicals in them so I use them sparingly and only when we have guests.
Nothing beats nice food cooking or a cake baking in the oven to make your living space smell homely.
I also like things like clove studded oranges or fresh rosemary twigs to add some spice to the air.
