Elves evolving from either a cat-like species or a squirrel-like species makes the most sense to me. Everything about them suggests that, like humans coming from apes, elves also came from arboreal roots. But unlike proto-humans, which were diurnal persistence hunters, elves’ ancestors are likely nocturnal, agility focused, and also not at the top of their food chain. While probably omnivorous, their larger, wide-set eyes and larger ears suggest that they had to have a greater awareness of predators than humans. (Which does give me the extremely satisfying mental image of long elf ears twitching and turning like cat ears at the slightest sound.) Their ability to basically not sleep also suggests a heritage of needing to be constantly alert to danger. The longer life span and lower birth rate might also be indicative of it being much riskier to stop and reproduce more frequently, requiring an extremely well-defended home before young proto-elves were worth the risk to the group.

Point is, there’s decent evidence to suggest that the most elves have in common with humans is that they’re mammals, and otherwise evolved from completely different types of creatures suited to a wildly different ecological niche. What's so bad about a wheelchair in D&D?

First, because if you’re creating an entirely new item and enchantments, you could get around the issue with (for example) a ‘belt of ambulation’ that lets you control your own legs.

Second, because the chair itself is actually better than someone walking around on their feet. It confers no penalty, allows for stronger unarmed attacks and hovers up/down stairs/inclines, which means it’s immune to pressure plates and tripwires in those scenarios.

Third, it exists purely for someone to ‘self insert’ without suffering any of the in-game consequences.  The idea of a disabled adventurer isn’t a bad idea on its own, it has been done before in plenty of games.  But typically they take the penalties and restrictions as they come and roleplay that.

There’s a degree of narcissism that I find there.  That you’d roleplay as someone like yourself but refuse to see any of the logical consequences of it.  You could’ve chosen an able-bodied character or someone with a less severe disability but they wanted to have a character in a wheelchair with no drawbacks.

It’s like if I wanted to self insert in the game and gave myself my same slight build and size… but then basically said “No, I got this ring that makes me as strong and move as fast as a 6 foot tall human”.  There’s no point, I could’ve just chosen a fit, tall character to play, but (for some reason) I demanded to play a short, thin human who (by rules) should probably have the height disadvantage of a dwarf.

I mean, I could see a wheel chair conferring penalties, but that really requires a DM who won’t fall into the prog-thinking trap that is saying, “oh I wouldn’t want to imply being in a wheel chair is a disability” in spite of deafness, muteness, and blindness being ailment concepts with stats affiliated with them.

A wheel chair for instance would mean a person’s height is about half that of usual, they would weigh more, and essentially be further hobbled by terrain modifiers. The player would also absolutely have climbing and swimming negatives both in and out of the wheelchair unless otherwise accounted for.

If we’re talking a hover chair with an enchantment you’d maybe cancel the absolute mobility there, but I’d see raising and lowering it to the ground as a move action unto itself so no saying, “I’m tote’s at the height to just look over this hip height wall” despite being ground height previously.

That said your initial point about the enchantment is a solid example of how fantasy settings ought to handle things like disability…that at restoration magic. I enjoy tech in fantasy, but one must avoid the wholesale copy pasting of such things into a magical world without at least couching its functions in that worlds tech, e.g. the use of elemental binding in trains and air transport in Eberron.

Captain Marvel is a bad movie with bad writing. Indiana Jones is not. That is the difference. Any claim otherwise should be ignored, because they are not comparable movies. They’re not even comparable scenes. 

People don’t criticize Captain Marvel because it stars a woman. They criticize it because it’s loaded with shitty writing and bad acting.

The issues with captain marvel are many.

But the most major glaring issue is, she is too damn powerful, she is put on a level of power far above what anyone else can do, she could defeat thanos at any time, without any issues, she is the strongest character introduced in the avengers franchise, and that is just the top of the iceberg.

They made her a superman without any weakness and with none to challenge her, they also just butchered her as a character, if you made 100 generic powerfull feminist characters and put her in among them, you would not be able to find her among the 100, she is just badly written, even in the comics the closest thing to a negative thing about her is she is a hothead and a raging alcoholic.

Compared to superman who is stronger then her up till the point she becomes the binary, superman is the archetype of an hero, he cares, really cares about they ones he saves, he is flawed, far from perfect, which is why he got justice league to help him always make the right decision, he has plenty of weaknesses, and there are many who can match him, or even outperform him in both speed, toughness and strength the funny thing is, his greatest weakness is how he has to hold back, he has to hold back not accidently crushing someone when hugging or shaking their hands, he is so kind, gentle and selfless, willing to do what is right, and cares for all the people. It’s those times when he stops holding back we sometimes see how much of a baddass he can be.

Captain Marvel on the otherhand, is a 24/7 badass, just a mary sue with no character.

One of the things I really hate about the memefication of conspiracy theories besides them causing pain and harm to family members is that those memes center powerful and infamous people as potential crusaders. The ‘Epstein didn’t kill himself’ meme is a good example. The conspiracy theory frames it as Epstein was going to tell people what he knew and inform on the powerful people in his circle. A disgusting, forced redemption arc for a predatory, ignoble man who found any and all ways to abuse girls. The reality is in prison, prisoners commit suicide all the time even on suicide watch, that he was looking at spending the rest of his natural life in prison, and that he was a man not used to facing consequences is maybe a more difficult and unsettling reality than pretending that everything is controlled and planned and that the edges of some grand conspiracy are there if you just pull the thread.

I wanted to see him hung from the gallows on live TV while crowds get to take their turns pelting him with rocks and rotten fruit AFTER every last secret and misdeed was squeezed out of him and made known. Epstein was a prolific monster with more than enough crimes to warrant the most brutal and inhumane treatment we could bring ourselves to enact. However, he also had the dirt we needed on countless politicians, celebrities, the extremely wealthy, and the people who control our media. His little black book was the tip of the iceberg  and if we could get even a small confirmation on any of it, then maybe we could have done something about the pedophile sex trafficking that is still going on right now.
