The Unsinkable Eight

I am pretty into The Wilds rn if you can’t tell by the pfp lol got bored at work and decided to come up with possible middle names for each of the girls. i know the only canon middle name is Dot’s, so we can just use our imagination for everyone else - if you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them!

Leah Emily Rilke - sticking with the poetry theme! her parents were highly into poetry & literature as well. her parents were big fans of Dickinson and figured that it just fit.

Leah (delicate) / Emily (striving & eager) / Rilke (strife & battle) - kind of like her name was an omen or something to her hardships in life, poor girl. even when she’s going dark, she always strives to make sense of everything and prove that she isn’t insane. she’ll put herself in the line of battle if it means doing what’s right.

Fatin Amina Jadmani - due to her family’s religion, she traditionally (and legally) doesn’t have a middle name. she decided on Amina for herself when she was in middle school because it meant ‘trustworthy’ & ‘honest’ and she just stuck with it.

Fatin (charming) / Amina (trustworthy) / Jadmani (strength & power) - it most definitely fits with her personality without a doubt! her charming personality is what draws you in, her strength & loyalty is the reason you stay.

Dorothy Jane Campbell - her dad & mom loved the song ‘Jane’ by Jefferson Starship and they thought it went well the first name that her mom had picked out.

Dorothy (gift of god) / Jane (gracious) / Campbell (distinct way of speaking) - she definitely was a gift to all of the girls because they wouldn’t have made it as long as they did without her. she is gracious to a point, but she doesn’t tolerate bullshit. she definitely marches to her own beat, that’s a fact.

Shelby Grace Goodkind - of course her middle name has to do with religion. if it didn’t, that wouldn’t be on brand for her parents. they always said that they were blessed with her by the Grace of God.

Shelby (associated with nature) / Grace (blessing) / Goodkind (positive character) - she is most definitely one of the most positive of the girls despite everything. always trying to make sure everyone is okay even if she isn’t doing too well herself.

Antonia ‘Toni’ Camille Shalifoe - if anyone calls her Antonia, like ever, she will not hesitate to rock their shit. well, unless it’s Shelby. she was named by one of the nurses who helped deliver her because her father wasn’t present and her mom didnt want to name her because she didn’t want to get attached.

Antonia (praiseworthy) / Camille (strength & service) / Shalifoe (indigenous origins) - since she’s been in the foster system pretty much her whole life, she has that sense of strength that a girl her age shouldn’t have to have. she also puts herself on the back burner when it comes to making sure that Marty is okay no matter what. her dedication and loyalty to her best friend definitely deserves praise.

Martha Takota Blackburn - with her geographical location and her family’s indigenous culture, her parents wanted to give her a modern middle name. they knew in their hearts that she would be a kind and gentle person, so they decided on a name that meant ‘friend to all’ and she definitely lived up to it!

Martha (nurturing) / Takota (friend to all) / Blackburn (dark stream) - again, her name just checks out. she is one of the most nurturing and friendly of the group. she has never once acted in malice towards the girls and was always the heart.

Rachel Etta Reid - named after the musician Etta James because her mom & dad’s first dance song at their wedding was At Last.

Rachel (purity & biblically rooted) / Etta (ruler of the house) / Reid (red or woodland clearing) - knowing that she always feels like she has to be in control, she gives off the ‘ruler’ vibe, especially since she is the older of the two. she has her religious awakening in s2 which really makes sense with her first name. here we go again with the wilderness meanings lol

Nora Evelyn Reid - since Nora was born just a few minutes after Rachel, they wanted to stick with the vintage ‘E’ vibe for middle names. meaning ‘wished for’, it made perfect sense since there were a few complications during Nora’s birth.

Nora (bright one) / Evelyn (wished for) / Reid (red or woodland clearing) - she is most definitely bright intellectually and her knowledge helped the girls get pretty far despite her being the confederate.

Season 5 au where eddie lives. Jonathan still believes Steve is trying to steal Nancy so he's pretty hostile and cold towards him but due to this, he starts to pay more attention to Steve and thus realizes, nope, he was wrong. Steve isn't in love with Nancy but in love.... with Eddie???

And it sort of comes out of his mouth before he can stop himself, his only saving grace is that he and steve are alone when the realization hits, making them the only witness to this humiliation.

But Steve doesn't deny it, which shocks Jonathan even further because this was the last thing he had expected from Steve the hair Harrington. Steve was queer. Was currently crushing on a man. Eddie Munson, no less.

It was all bizarre.

They have a reluctant to heart about it, Steve revealing the only person who knew was Robin and no one else, not Nancy, not Dustin, and especially not Eddie.

And Jonathan gets it but also... he wonders out loud went not tell him. It was kind of an open secret that Eddie more than likely leaned that way so Steve probably had a chance if he confessed. But Steve shuts that down. Just because Eddie might be into men, does not mean he would be into Steve. Plus, Steve’s feelings run deeper than a crush and he wouldn't want to make things awkward or unfair with Eddie just because Steve’s stupid heart can't control himself.

The more Steve talks, the more Jonathan feels kind of bad for the guy. He starts to realize the Steve he had built up in his head was not real. He wasn't an arrogant muscle head, a cocky, entitled rich boy.

He was an insecure, queer outcast. Just like the rest of them.

And he can't help but think about Will. He can't tell him about this, of course... but how awesome would it be if Will had a gay couple to look up to? A man like Steve, even. A guy everyone saw as the epitome of masculinity and strength.

So, without telling Steve, he quietly takes Robin aside and tells her his plan.

"I know Steve likes Eddie. I want to get them together. "

".... you? Are gonna wing man Steve? With Eddie??"

"No, we are going to wing man Steve. With Eddie."

El/Jane is Will's feral sister okay. He is teaching her the importance of LOTR like it's Bible study okaaaaay. He is trying to get her to eat Eggos normally (thanks Mike for giving her no syrup or butter, she's my sis, not a pet)

El always guarded up and thinking she gotta be Will's protector against the... what is this thing? It's called a dog El, meet Chester. El now can communicate with Chester via barking and snarling. Learning to bark is easier than correct... English... grammar? What a garbage language, just growl and glare okaaaaaaaaaay

El doesn't get gender society rules. She thinks all siblings are supposed to wear matching outfits so if Will's in flannel so is she. If she is wearing a dress, so must Will. This makes sense to her so it's fine. Will, get in the dress, we can be twins which I think is the best category of siblings

Will apologizing to randoms that barely got in his personal space (sorry, she don't play about me. She don't bite.... I swear). The randoms are Mike/Lucas/Dustin asking where Will found this girl mean mugging the shit outta them. Battle of possessive sister vs possesive homies, Will is tired so he fucks off drawing in a corner somewhere until they realize he's missing and panic and team up to find him cuz they not losing him again but also Will's good at hiding and just wanna make them sweat a little bit on his mischievous vibes

El secretly grades other people's siblingisms. She wants to beat the Wheelers and Sinclairs as best sister ever. This quest of hers is entirely one-sided. Will needs to help her un-learn that toxic shit Brenner and Henry taught in the labs, so if she's good she gets a reese's pieces and if she backslides Will makes her listen to Mike's music choices (she also gotta listen to Mike sing, her most un-favorite past time)

El cries cuz her hair won't cooperate and become a bob so she tells Will he must grow his out to match. Will knows its hard work, but that's his sis and he gone stick beside her.

Jackie & Van friendship moodboard?

Thinking quite terribly hard about Nick's costume design. More aptly about how completely plain it is next to everybody else's and how, in turn, that makes it unique. I think it also tends to add to the "Nick is just plain/boring/etc" agenda that a lot of the fandom has when - at least in my eyes - it's anything but.

Under a cut, because I doth yap.

Because Nick seems to pick out his clothes the way he does his actions — based entirely on how best to fit in the situation at any given moment and blend in. Hiding any real shred of who he is as a person.

In school hallways it's a letterman jacket; a jersey or a letterman is something you see before you even really see who's wearing it. it lumps him in with The Team, and there's no need for personal expression. The jacket does the talking Nick needs it to.

In the music classroom, it's a Keith Haring hoodie — the right kind of artsy that'll be quietly approved of, but still basic enough to blend him in, whereas something like a band tee would say something about him as a person and his interests. Things we know he is either trying to actively hide, or things he hasn't even really figured out for himself yet.

(You can also go the 'Keith Haring is a queer icon' route, in which case it's interesting that that's the only thing Nick wears that's really able to be identified as maybe-possibily being related to any of his interests. And that he hides it under his letterman in the hallway.)

We definitely see glimpses of that Real Person - the way he dances when nobody's watching, the jokes he texts Julie - but for the most part when there are eyes on him, he's pretty firmly locked away.

I have Other Thoughts on Nick's dance costume, but that's an entirely different ramble for another time. For now: everything about it blends in! The black of the hat against the wall, the blue denim bathed in blue light. Nick is, yet again, just part of the scenery. Which brings me to the main point I'm trying to make. That being Nick is what he is surrounded by.

In dance class, it's a repeat of the letterman: a jersey that lumps him in with the team, and even though Nick is absolutely at the center, there's nothing that makes him stand out from the others. Just the way he likes it!

He's not even in the front. He's sometimes not even in focus. He's not even in the blue which at least draws the eye.

And then in episode 9, when he's already surrounded by the green of the trees and the plants and bushes, the green of his shirt blends right in. The sun hits the gold-ish of his hair. He's holding flowers to fit right in among the plants! Somehow, even though Nick is the only character in the shot, he might as well still be part of the background.

There is one singular exception to the rule, which is that Nick stands out in I Got The Music. Pretty drastically, actually! While everybody else is wearing vibrant color, Nick is in a black and white suit. He's not in the background, he's leading the charge with Julie.

Not only that, but the suit doesn't really fit/suit him well. At all. It doesn't look good, and the costume designing on JatP pretty much always looks good. So what the hell?

The thing to remember here is that this is Julie's fantasy. Nick stands out in this dream sequence because he stands out among the rest to her. But even in a fantasy, Julie can't put Nick in something well-tailored and flattering, because...

What does she know about him? Julie doesn't really know him at all. Flynn gets clothing in IGTM that suits her. One look at her wearing her outfit and you know exactly who she is. Because Julie knows who she is, and in her mind's eye it's easy for her to pick out a costume that works.

Nick? He's a blank slate for her to project on. And he's done a great job at locking away the fact he's a real person from view.

PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS | 1.06

I fear I need some advice

So context: I got drunk 2 days after new years bc I didn’t get drunk as I wanted

anyways. I invited a friend over and her bf came with. we played games and took some shots, bf didn’t take as much bc he was gonna drive and friend home to his house

We start talking abt dating experiences for some reason and the “marriage pact” I have with friend. she says she “won’t marry anyone if they won’t have sex with her” (this part doesn’t matter but anywho)

My “dating experiences” include:

A coworker that liked me and invited me to her homecoming, I was v lonely at the time and said yes

A kiss from a friend when I was drunk, very consensual and ment nothing

A kiss from a childhood best friend in 8th grade, a peck

I talked about the last 2, there isn’t a whole lot that I remember but I know I mentioned things along the lines of watching having sex, as a joke, everything until this point of us talking with kisses and etc was a joke to me, nobody has ever been serious abt

But next thing ik, the bf is smacking his lips on me, then my friend is smacking her lips after. After the 1st kiss I don’t remember feeling the others but according to my friend, she says that she cupped my face and said I could kiss back, so they both kissed me again

Then each other

Friend then keeps repeating that they “stressed me out.”

My roommate comes home from work, eventually I go to the bathroom with her and breakdown, I start crying and being self-deprecating etc etc.

The days go on and I’m not sure how to feel about it, I’ve talked to roommate about it some and a friend and they have different opinions

Roommate seems to hint at something that I think isn’t there

A different Friend seems mad for me that the couple kissed me

Like I’ve talked to the friend that kissed me, and I’ve told her that it doesn’t change anything, but before then and now she still likes to lay the flirting on thick, and i still take it as a joke, bc she has a bf ( who btw has been in a throuple before)

I dunno, I feel like I’m lost on how to feel about it and it’s been making me sad currently to the extent that I don’t have a relationship but most if not all ppl ik my age have a relationship
