Just wanted to share one of my Killofia stories I’ve made in hopes people understand where I’m coming from with this ship! Thought I’d start with the their first time meeting!
Sofia - Beginning of Season 1, Age 8
Killua - Pre Series, Age 10
The sun dipped low over the skies of Enchancia, turning the waters gold and the marble paths warm with light. Sofia sat on the edge of their long stone bridge, her feet dangling. She was grasping her new amulet, which shimmered softly in the evening glow.
“I just wish people didn’t expect so much all the time,” she sighed. “I’m trying my best.”
“Trying your best at what?”
Sofia jumped and turned around. A boy about her age stood a few steps away. He had spiky silver hair, pale skin, and bright blue eyes. His hands were in his pockets, and he looked both bored and curious at the same time. “Oh! You startled me,” Sofia said, catching her breath as her smile returned. “I didn’t hear you coming.”
“Most people don’t,” the boy replied with a shrug. “Name’s Killua.”
“I’m Princess Sofia,” she said politely. “It’s nice to meet you.”
Killua raised an eyebrow. “Princess, huh? Figures. You must live in this castle.”
Sofia glanced up at the Enchancian palace. “Yep. Well, I do NOW.”
Killua casually sat next to her on the bridge. “So what were you talking about? The expectations thing?”
Sofia began to sigh. “Ever since my mom married the king, I’ve had to learn how to be a proper princess. Etiquette, dancing, lessons, parties… and everyone expects me to be perfect.”
Killua gave a small chuckle. “Perfect. Yeah, I know that one,” he replied.
Sofia tilted her head. “You do?”
“My family expects me to be the greatest assassin in the world,” he answered. “Like it’s just… decided already.”
Sofia’s eyes widened. “Assassin?!”
Killua waved a hand. “Yeah, yeah. Sounds worse than it feels. But still… I don’t want to live my life just doing what they tell me. I want to choose my own path.”
Sofia smiled softly as she replied, “Me too. I mean, I like being a princess. I like helping people and making friends. But sometimes… it feels like I’m not allowed to make mistakes or do things I enjoy.”
Killua leaned back on his hands. “In my house, mistakes usually mean punishment. Big ones.”
Sofia’s expression fell. “That sounds awful.”
He shrugged again, but his voice softened. “You get used to it.”
For a moment, they sat in silence, listening to the gentle splash of the water below. Sofia’s gentle smile returned as she broke the silence asking, “So what do you want to be?”
“If you could choose anything,” she said, “what would you want to be instead of an assassin?”
Killua thought for a moment. “I dunno. I just want to travel. Make friends. Eat good food. Do whatever I feel like doing that day.”
Sofia giggled. “That sounds nice.”
“What about you?” he questioned. “If you didn’t have to be a princess?”
She looked down at her amulet. “I think… I’d still want to help people, and have fun. Do things I love, like riding flying horses or spending time with my village friends. But my family says princesses aren’t allowed to do those things!”
Killua smirked. “You’re weird for a princess.”
Sofia giggled before replying, “You’re pretty nice for an assassin.”
He rolled his eyes, holding back a smirk as he stated, “Don’t let that get around.”
Suddenly, a faint growl was heard nearby. A small, snarling creature with glowing eyes popped out, claws raised. Sofia gasped, “What is THAT!?”
Before she could move, Killua was already in front of her. His eyes sharpened. “Stay back,” he muttered. In a blur, he struck the creature with a quick, precise movement. It yelped and scampered away back down the bridge.
Sofia dropped her jaw and grew a large grin telling him, “That was amazing! You moved so fast!”
Killua shrugged. “Just reflexes,” he told her as he sat back down.
She smiled brightly. “You may not want to be an assassin, but your skills can still help people. Like just now—you protected me.”
He blinked, clearly not expecting that response. Killua began to ponder as he responded, “Yeah… I guess.”
“And maybe one day…” Sofia continued, “You’ll use those skills for something you choose. Not just what your family expects.”
Killua looked at her for a long moment. Then a small, genuine smile appeared. “You’re not like other princesses I’ve met.”
Sofia tilted her head. “You’ve met other princesses?”
“No…,” he admitted. “But I’m pretty sure they’re not like you.”
Sofia gave a small laugh as she replied, “Thanks. I think.”
Killua stood up and stretched. “Well, I should probably get going before my family thinks I’m slacking off.”
Sofia stood as well adding, “I’m glad we met, Killua.”
Killua’s eyes widened, he’d never heard anything like that. “Yeah… Same,” he replied, almost speechless. He started to walk away, then paused. “Hey, Princess.”
“Don’t worry so much about being perfect. People who expect that are usually the worst anyway.”
Sofia smiled warmly. “And you don’t have to be the perfect assassin,” she confirmed.
Killua’s smirk returned as he replied, “Good. Because I’m not planning on it.” With that, he waved and disappeared down the path.
Sofia grasped her amulet as she watched him walk away. “Maybe being different isn’t such a bad thing after all,” she said softly.
