There was only one person I found who both would do it and was in a feasible driving distance. Many of the people who do it are traveling artists so hunting one down is definitely the hard part.
It's also a specialized field that has a higher price tag than most tattoos.
The healing process is brutal. The idea with a brand is to cause scarring on purpose, which is the opposite of most procedures. So to promote a visible scar they go as deep as possible into rhe lowest layer of skin. It leaves an indent which scabs over quickly, but can take months to fully heal. My personal brand took four months before it stopped scabbing, but the appearance of the scar can change long term even over the course of a year.
The pain level is much more tolerable than you'd expect. Because it is essentially a 3rd degree burn, it destroys a lot of nerve endings responsible for the pain. It itches a lot while healing though.
A lot of people ask if it smells like bacon. To which I say if you cook your meat by charring it on purpose you're not a very good cook. It smells like burning hair. Not appetizing at all.
