Pirate Fact #342:
Pirates often stretched before going into battle. They had so many treasure chests around that they often used them to stretch their quads as shown in this photo. This pirate is taking full advantage of his time stretching by simultaneously practicing his hatchet techniques and marksmanship at the same time. What an efficient and talented fellow!

Pirate Tattoo Fact #17:
Pirates used tattoos to show strength and fearlessness. As pirates were often stabbed repeatedly with swords and daggers during sword fights, pirates with the most tattoos showed that they saw being stabbed over and over as a form of art rather than torture.
Pirate Fact #345:
Before pirate ships, pirates used to travel the seas by seahorseback. They often found herds of wild seahorses to capture and tame because they were pirates and pirates take things. Traveling by seahorseback was slow and made carrying cannons and treasure chests really difficult. However, unlike pirate ships, seahorses didn’t catch on fire easily and were small so they were good at dodging cannon balls. They also did’t sink as frequently as pirate ships unless they got stabbed in the neck with a sword or something.
BONUS FACT: Seahorseshoes frequently fell off during lengthy travel and litter the ocean floor.
BONUS ACTIVITY: Get your friends together and enjoy a day at the beach searching for seahorseshoes. Last one to find one buys dinner!
Pirate Fact #12:
When pirates were killed it was tradition to draw a portrait of what the pirate would look like 100 years after he died. There were two rules:
1) Only draw the head
2) Draw the pirate’s favorite possession on his head to look like a hat.
This beautiful drawing shows a late pirate who’s favorite possession was his pirate ship!

Pirate Fact #2: Pirates were some of the most daring thrill seekers of their time and often had to invent new ways to entertain themselves at sea.
