The Changes We See

They say the only thing that is constant is change.

The time changes.

The day changes.

The Year changes.

You change...

...I change

We start our life as a small baby, a blank slate. As time progresses we start to adopt ideas and attach emotions to these ideas. When emotions are attached, behaviors start to come into physical manifestation. Before you know it we are lashing out because our coffee isn't hot enough, and we are excited because the latest blood diamond has been released. 

Some of us are fortunate (or cursed, depending how you look at it) to have an evolved consciousness, realizing our ideas, emotions, and behaviors. In that moment of divine realization we are blessed with the opportunity to change. We can change for the better and bloom like the spring flower in the warm sun- or we can choose to stay the same and become like the unwatered house plant; withering away in the un-natural state of same. 

You see, life wasn't always like this. Until recently human beings believed in the notion that we are the way we are and there is nothing we can do about it. We are here to live, die, and never question otherwise. 

Why not change? Why not question reality? As the day turns to night, and the hair on my head fades from a beautiful black to white, I want to look back and say that I changed everything in sight.

Be Still

Some days I just want to be quiet. I just want that still silence when no one is around. It's that feeling when you are laying in the dark, still of night, without a sound to hear or an image to see. You get nice and cozy in bed and can't tell if you are dreaming or awake. It is a peaceful floating feeling that only lasts so long. There is no text to respond to, no boyfriend to cater to, no coworker following you around, and no dog to feed. Oh how I yearn for that quiet feeling...

Respect

A woman at work was telling me about a time when she dated. She is 93 and single when world war ll was coming to an end. She told me how she dated many men and had multiple offers for marriage. I couldn't believe it because she has been with her husband for 70 years! She asked how I could be single and date in a world where the man could be anyone! He could lie cheat and even kill me if I didn't know better. She had been watching all these stories in the news and to be honest; I don't know how I survived dating till now. I pondered over her questions and asked her "isn't dating the same now as it was then?" She said "no, men knew what no means and they had respect". To be honest, men and women have no respect and we are all just playing games.
