friends romans countrymen you will give me a stroke. classical reception isn't the 'good' part of a good/bad divide. quality of execution is not a meaningful parameter in determining whether something is reception or not. anything you make out of a text, or, more broadly, of a culture, or a specific moment in history, is a form of reception. it doesn't even need to be actively conceptualized as such. reception generates endless iterations. sometimes the result is a clever work of art. sometimes it's a fucked up game of telephone. sometimes it's fascist revivalism. sometimes it's a tumblr post. hello is anybody listening
