I know this makes the anti-voting fandom big mad but this is only happening because Murphy was re-elected by a thin margin in November 2021, bucking a 40 year trend of Democratic governors losing re-election in NJ, because enough people voted for him
People only think their votes don’t count because they only think about presidential elections. Vote local.
the twitter communists currently are getting mad because some random undergrads made an edible burrito tape bc they should instead be doing medical research
i had to work hard to make sure the similarly corrosive take of “only few people in the world make their own food” also fit in the screenshot
lest y’all think i was making up a conversation that wasn’t in the op the comments are all like this
btw the vaccine in question is a cancer treatment (ie. not a preventative/immunization) similar to another one already also used in the US and is currently undergoing clinical trials in the US.
"People not understanding that scientists are not interchangeable" never gets old
I have no idea why people are being assholes about burrito tape.
I want burrito tape. I am terrible at wrapping burritos.
"Why did these students make an innovative product that fulfills a niche need instead of making the cure for cancer?" Err. Maybe "edible tape that works on flatbreads" has some medical uses.
...Veterinary medicine is the first thing that comes to mind. Wrap your dog's medicine in a bit of tortilla and tape it shut.
Any kind of tape that holds for a little while and then safely dissolves when it gets wet, has potential uses in surgery or medical treatments. And while nobody cares if two-minute bandages taste good or not, "no flavor" can mean "no chemicals that interfere with the medicine itself."
People with hand tremors and shaking from any number of reasons can have a very hard time with food. I know my father would love something like this, because he usually eats foods like that deconstructed because it's hard to hold them together. Also not every single thing you do has to be bettering mankind. You can live for yourself. You're not responsible to dedicate every moment of your life to productivity. If these kids want to practice important research skills while applying themselves to something purely frivolous, let them. Science is as much of an art as anything else. And at the most cynical, if you have to, encouraging students to think outside the box and stretch their minds creatively helps to make researchers that are better at problem solving. And it doesn't hurt that it helps them find joy in their field.
Uhmm. I see this argument turned into something else but as a Mexican this is weird to see. You know how you keep a burrito closed? You hold it. And if you put it down you put it down on the section where it might open ?? I can see it being used for other stuff but a burrito …?
Tisk tisk
Also if you’re eating it to go or if you’re buying it that’s what the wrapper is for. Ooooor uh tinfoil ??

having to come to terms with the fact that love is not an everlasting performance in which you attempt to retain the attention of your significant other but rather a release of control and putting faith into them and trusting them to choose to stay with you no matter what you have to offer
to love and be loved is to rest
Younger siblings should be illegal.
I’m the youngest and I am indeed useless
Not very complex, yet impossible for most capitalists to understand.

“i don’t like writing about my day, but i want to keep a journal”:
quotes and copywork. when reading, if you find something you enjoy, just copy it into the notebook. you can copy a whole chapter if you wish, highlighting what caught your attention the most.
definitions. look up on a dictionary and copy it. you could write your own dictionary as well, making up definitions for words.
lists. a classic, write movies to watch, books to read, the playlist of the month or just the groceries you have to buy.
maps. when going somewhere, you could draw the route you took or just a map of the place itself. just look up the place on google maps and copy it. you can draw a little map of all the places you have lived or the schools you have attended as well.
photos
take “notes” as you watch movies / documentaries. write down phrases that caught your attention or doodle.
illustrations and clippings. if you see an image or piece of art that you liked, put it in your journal. if it’s from a book or from a magazine I would recommend scanning it, tho’. it will serve as a record of what kind of art you enjoy through the years.
newspaper clippings from the day.
tickets and pamphlets. from movies, museums, transportation.
postcards
records. you could record for a month what the temperature was when you woke up and when you went to sleep. if you do that for a year, it gives you a better notion of the passing of seasons. you could record rainfall and other seasonal changes as well. you could choose something (an animal, a plant, an item or object) and write down every time you see it.
rubbings of leaves, coins, landmarks.
count. there’s a scene in the movie Caroline (2009) where Caroline’s dad tells her to go count the windows. you could do the same type of counting game if you are bored and write down.
mindmaps/sketchnotes + timelines of books, movies, music albums.
collages
pressed leafs and flowers
your collections. if you collect anything you could write down an inventory or maybe try to draw the items.
recipes. write down recipes and give it a score every time you try it. you could do the same for drinks you try out.
stickers
comic strips. you can find a bunch of it online, glue your favorites in your notebook.
I keep seeing posts that are like:
Person #1: *Meme about breaking news* Person #2: I can’t keep learning the news like this. Person #3: If you’re going to a circus, expect to see clowns.
But the thing is, sure, everyone on tumblr expects to see clowns.
What we don’t expect is for the clowns to do this:
And this has been the exact energy of this website for months.
ok firstly I’m traumatized, not crazy, so jot that down

I love hearing about the vibes I give off cause I honestly have no idea
Anonymously message me what vibes I give off and why you think that
A black girl will be spending years in jail because she had a mental health crisis. PLEASE READ
Meet Saraya: she was experiencing a mental health crisis. Police came and tackled her. She is 15.
Saraya Rees is a 15 year old biracial girl from Coos County, Oregon. After being abruptly instructed to stop taking her antidepressants by a local pediatrician, Saraya went into psychosis. In her manic state, Saraya poured a small amount of gasoline on the floor. Her parents called Coos Health & Wellness in hope that that would send mental health advisors, Coos Health & Wellness sent the police. While still in psychosis, the officers arrested her, questioned her without her family or lawyers present, charged with attempted murder and assault, and sent her to juvenile prison for 11 years.
ELEVEN.YEARS.
