thinking about that post where people explained that many US cities are zoned so that it is not allowed (and possibly illegal) to mix businesses and residences in the same neighborhoods, meaning lots of Americans must travel notable distances to shop or go to a restaurant, library, school, hospital, work, and so on

and things are exacerbated by the car industry managing to keep robust public transportation from ever being built

and then, because there's nothing to walk to in suburban housing developments, a lot of them are being built without sidewalks, making things like "recreational walking/walking for exercise" dangerous to do near your home, but there will often be places built specifically for walking that you can drive to

And people from other countries were like "Wait, I thought Americans just loved cars and refused to use public transport or go to the corner shop out of stubborn senses of independence, I didn't know the country was set up so you actually needed those cars to survive"

Just a reminder that you can't assume that everyone else is working off of the same information you have, even if the information is incredibly obvious to you

i understand why people are like "when are we ever gonna use this" about highschool classes, but personally i always kinda assumed it was more like. a taste test for the kids who do wanna use it? like maybe i dont need to reference atomic structure and the periodic table often in my daily life, but i assume there has to be at least one kid in my grade who was like "oh fuck this chemistry shit is awesome" and went on to be a chemist, yknow?

like i understand wanting more life skills to be taught in school and i agree, but i also think some people act as if the ONLY life skills are taxes and housework. do you want school to be a multi-year retail training course with a side of "how to fold bedsheets". that sounds lame as hell. i'll take the algebra thanks.

I think the marketing failure around Jennifer's Body is an enormous part of what makes it such a brilliant master class film. You market this film with these male gazey shots of the current Hollywood sex symbol, you make it seem like a pseudo lesbian soft core porno, you then bring all these men who just want to goon to Megan Fox into the theatre. You sit them down. They're ready to watch the extended cut of her scene in bad boys. And instead you subject them to what rape feels like for women. You force these misogynistic straight men who came to the theater to get their rocks off to watch Megan Fox get shoved into the back of a van, taken to a remote location, and ritualistically sacrificed in a way where any idiot can tell it's a metaphor for sexual assault but which no one would find sexy, and then you make them watch her go to her best friend's house and throw up black bile all over the place. You make her gross and unsexy and in pain. And then you make it gay for real in a way that straight men have a hard time comprehending let alone fetishizing.

If you're a capitalist it's a terrible marketing decision but if you're a feminist and a troll it's the most brilliant move anyone has ever made.
