while cycling was an activity the brunette loved to do, she knew it was one she could no longer do. the inability of using her legs caused it, though she couldn’t blame an accident (or could she?) a small sigh escaped asahina’s lips, for once, she would love to know what that was like again - however, she promised herself to not mope about it. to move forward and to become a paralympian.
her head turned to see one of the members from that bicycle racing club, one of the third years to be precise. while she wasn’t someone who interacted anyone from school, let alone her classmates; asahina figures she could approach the green haired male, his hair…it had to be dyed, right? “senpai,” she called out. he was older than her, it was only right to address him as such.
standing before him now, her emerald hues looked away while scratching the side of her face, then back at him. “i um…” she paused, trying to collect herself “…i’m curious, what got you into cycling? it’s fun, isn’t it?”
makishima was surprised to be stopped by a call of senpai as he crookedly slouched across school grounds ( not many underclassmen spoke to him at all, and those that did were all members of the cycling club. it was even more surprising that the call came from a young woman, when the only female schoolmate he regularly spoke to was the younger kanzaki ), not knowing what to expect, or what was being expected of him. the girl who called out to him was a second year, he was pretty sure, but he knew nothing else about her.
the question took him by surprise, though. what had gotten him into cycling ? was she interested in the sport ? why approach him of all people ? he scratched his cheek, thinking for a moment. he supposed he was easily the most recognizable member of the club, as well as vice-captain, if that meant anything.
“ uh, yeah, it’s fun, ” he answered, awkward but earnest, “ i, um. i dunno, i always liked biking as a kid and thought racing looked fun when i saw it on tv, so i ‒ ” he shrugged stiltedly, “ ‒ i tried it. it stuck, i guess - sho. ” an understatement, of course. he came alive on his bike in a way he didn’t anywhere else. it was his loudest expression of self, which said an awful lot considering the wild colors and patterns he liked to wear.

rp halloween sucks when ur muse wouldnt do shit for it :/ someone drag maki out to do halloween things
headcanon + his opinions on his teammates :3
( prompt some headcanons. / accepting. ) @isolov
kinjou. kinjou was the first person in makishima’s own year to not treat him like he was unpleasant or weird, and for that, makishima remains grateful. he gave him advice ( however unconventionally makishima took it ), greeted him with a smile, and complimented him when he did well. he was one of makishima’s first ever friends, and though he’s not his closest, makishima considers him the kindest, most supportive person he’s ever met, and he has an incredible amount of respect for him as a captain and a friend, both on and off the road. i also like to think that, though it comes from different places for them, they’ve probably bonded over their mutual interest in sewing.
tadokoro. undoubtedly one of makishima’s favorite people, considering he’s the only person makishima has ever given a nickname. when they first met, makishima found himself unexpectedly fond of the loud kid that came into the club and annoyed the seniors in his eagerness, which prompted him to mentally call him tadokorocchi before they even were friends. now, a couple years later, he’s safely makishima’s best friend, and the person he’s most comfortable going to if he needs something. they also probably get up to all sorts of idiocy together bc the third years have one braincell they pass back and forth and kinjou has it 80% of the time.
lies down im still here!! depressions been hittin hard lately but i still wanna write for makichan so im gonna try to ease myself back into writing and rb a meme or smth?? idk lmao we’ll see. im here is the point
KURAMOCHI. / isolov.
if kuramochi was being honest, he thought competitive bike riding was just something akin to that one famous bike race that happened in france, or whatever. ( really a whole testament to how much he knew ). so he listens to makishima’s explanations, quietly slurping up his ramen all the same. it makes sense that climbers, well, climbed things, but kuramochi wonders why anyone would want to bicycle up an incline in a race, but to each there own he supposed.
❝ makes sense. you must have some killer legs to do that for fun. ❞ he thinks about the power and stamina needed for such a sport, and he shudders. he couldn’t ride a bike for more than an hour and that wasn’t even racing. ❝ i dunno how you can do it, seems like a lot of energy. ❞
“ k’ha ! ” makishima laughs, unable to contain the unsteady smirk that usually overtakes his features when talking about his sport of choice. a lot of energy cycling requires indeed ‒ not many people would be too fond of the idea of racing with all they’ve got for a checkpoint only to continue for hours more until the final goal. maybe it would seem out of place for someone like makishima, so incredibly low-energy in his day-to-day life, to love it, but anyone who would think so has simply likely never seen him come alive on a climb.
“ bigger races are often more than one day long, you know, ” he says. the longest he’s participated in is the three-day inter-high, but it’s nothing compared to the twenty-three days of the tour de france. “ it’s a fight between conserving energy or taking the advantage - sho. ”
??? / bittenback.
— “Yo, I think this belongs to you. Dropped out of your bag or I’m pretty sure it did” Rin calls out to the other. It is one of those water bottles those addiced to sports like to own plenty of. He has several of them himself. “If not then i guess I was wrong and just drop it somewhere, yeah?”
* @pkspdr / liked for a starter.
makishima looks up from his phone at the sound of someone’s voice calling in his direction, and to his surprise, the person is holding the water bottle he’d thought was tucked safely in the bag he lazily carries over his shoulder. he slips his phone into his pocket as he turns and approaches to take the bottle back ( he hadn’t been looking at anything important ‒ his rival can wait for his inevitably short and dry response ). “ ah, that is mine, actually. uh, thanks. ”
IMAIZUMI. / ambicharm.
pkspdr
dark hues scanned the bicycle club room, there wasn’t anyone around today. imaizumi had yet to hear of anything, perhaps it was a day for them to take a break? or perhaps it was a natural instinct of his to get into gear and practice. only a moments silence before giving out a small sigh, his hand closing the door gently as he turned around.
a shadow looming over before eyes staring upwards at his senpai, “makishima-san…” he paused, taking his hand off the door so to leave it ajar. “where is everyone?” he asked, perhaps it was better to ask rather than to embarrass himself if everyone was running late.
makishima was surprised to see someone by the clubroom, their tall, slim figure immediately giving them away as imaizumi. makishima didn’t really interact with any of the first years aside from onoda ( though he’d had more conversations with naruko due to the sprinter’s more outgoing nature, and with miki due to her duties as manager ), so he wasn’t completely sure how to talk to him. but since he’d seemingly missed an important memo, he’d have to figure it out fast.
“ oh, uh, practice was cancelled today. ” he informed, wondering how imaizumi of all people wasn’t told. he would’ve been certain that either kinjou or miki would have told him personally. “ i was going to go up minegayama anyway, though. ” be a good senpai, yuusuke. “ you can, uh ‒ you can come with me if you want - sho. ”

‘ how hard can ya kick a ball if yer sport is cyclin’ ? ‘ is what atsumu says in lieu of a greeting, because in his opinion greetings are silly and unnecessary and when you’re a teenager with the world at your feet, it is unnecessary and silly. he cuts straight to the point like a chef to a fish. ‘ and what are ya doin sittin’ there ? ‘
@pkspdr / starter call.
makishima’s expression is a strange mix of strangled surprise and wary confusion at the unexpected questions. the first one in particular takes him off-guard, just because it comes out of nowhere, and if he were to answer it, he has no idea. climbing so much has certainly strengthened his legs, but he thinks it doesn’t really matter in this case, when he hardly has the coordination off his bike to kick a ball at all ( and if he were to manage it, it would undoubtedly fly off sideways, or something ).
“ im, uh, not good at other sports, so... ” he trails off with a lopsided shrug to convey his point instead of explaining his train of thought. the other teen’s second query goes forgotten to makishima being overwhelmed by more than one question in the first place.
