location: floor 25, outside of a unity member residence ( a common residential area )
it had been quite a while since one of her members had been murdered.
player deaths were common. things happened in this world, and while unity had a better survival rate than most due to their own personal goals and the fact that she didn’t have too many people on the front lines—they still lost people. but to outright, cold-blooded middle of the damn night murder? that wasn’t something she’d experienced in a while. unity was…well, they weren’t protected. not by a long shot, but they had a sort of padding surrounding them. similar to combat medics, or rescue services: unity wasn’t often targeted for violence. and when they were?
when they were, she reminded everyone that while they were here to do good, they would not be pushed around. consequences. everything had consequences. she wasn’t one to start a fight, but she was one to finish it.
not that it was her plan. oh, she was furious, but she’d taken on this job because she was good in times of crisis. flying off the handle wouldn’t help anyone right now, and until she had reason to believe that the revenants were out on a coordinated attack as opposed to one lone rogue player, she’d keep her head.
she stepped out of the house that the boy was staying at—one of the unity guard’s residence. he was safe now, tended to by a few mystics. the sun was out now, the day was bright. it felt too nice a day for her to be dealing with this. she’d spent the past hour or so talking with him, but he was distraught. it was best to let him rest for now.
instead, she ran a hand through her hair, pulled it up to secure the tresses with an elastic band. “i believe him,” she said, addressing the person in front of her. “and i’ll be handling it.”
young resists the urge to wring his hands and holds them still at his sides. ‘ hi, auntie. i’m just here to see eddie. ’ he waits to see the recognition dawn on fiona’s face. ‘ --- is he... okay ? ’ unlike young, eddie seemed to have had a good relationship with his older brother, and the two players had always been close from what he had seen while living in the unity orphanage with them. to hear that one of them was murdered --- young could barely wrap his head around it. he had teleported the moment he had heard the news, likely leaving the person who told him very confused when he vanished mid-conversation. he hadn’t even considered that he would run into fiona --- though he now realizes that it was idiotic to assume that she would be anywhere else.
