Idk man thinking about Caleb and Astrid and breakdowns. How the one time we see her have a breakdown it's so neat and quiet and private in contrast to Caleb's messy, public, even violent breakdowns. Do you think she looks down on him for not being able to control it? Do you think she resents him because Trent still wants him back even after all of it and she could never get away with something like that (does the specter of the hysterical woman keep her up at night)? Does she envy him because that's what freed him? And does that just cause the resentment to pile even higher because she could never allow herself to fall to pieces like that? Because someone has to stay in control. Someone has to keep it together.

i find scourger au's absolutely amazing in how one of their purposes is to simply satisfy the fandom's infinite horniness for evil-aligned wizards, and you know i had to get in on that shit too. i've actually wanted to draw adult Bren ever since i figured out my design for Caleb's scars, with the sole purpose of depicting him with the glyph chant tattoos, so here i am, like months later. anyway, i enjoy some very specific scourger!Bren brainworms and headcanons from time to time, and one of them is that he's absolutely just as sullen and gloomy as canon Caleb is

No one asked and I don't know how to explain this but to me Astrid is like Schrodinger's trans. She's that post that's like "I'm probably nonbinary but I have a job so I don't really care about that rn" except the job is also the reason she's nonbinary (so estranged from her body as anything other than magical weapon that she cannot meaningfully have a gender)

I will never understand people who want Caleb to find some weird magical way to live longer not only bc it extremely obviously undermines everything that is poignant and crucial about him thematically but also because I think about old man Caleb and I want to start violently weeping

Like Caleb was not supposed to grow old. He is a child prodigy turned child soldier turned man who thinks he died at seventeen and is living on stolen time. He was supposed to die young and impressively but he accidentally survived. He lived long enough to grow up. He's going to die old and unremarkably and he is going to teach children with patience because some things take time and time is not the enemy. Like don't you want to lose your mind.
