Plant of the Day

The ideal tender perennials for an autumn display are the plant group known as the āDecorative Dahliasā which have fully double flowerheads with flat or slightly incurved florets. A cultivar from this group includes the compact, herbaceous perennial Dahlia 'CrĆØme de Cassis' with pale lilac petals with purple backs. The root tubers of these plants will need to be lifted and stored over the winter in a dark, cool, frost-free building.

Texas bluebonnets (Lupinus texensis) and Indian paintbrush (Castilleja indivisa) are an iconic spring wildflower pairing. Oneās a nitrogen fixer and the other is a hemiparasite; a real odd couple.
