Indoor ginger update! He's a bit scraggly but I love him. Sweet fragrant leaves and constantly putting out new shoots. And to my surprise, a flower bud! Hopefully just one of many more to come :)

And that’s how I learned what our plants - esp the trees - call / think of me. The garden has named me, I realized, as I wandered around with the hose, strategically spot watering.
We went from plentiful frequent rains, where everyone was happy and singing, to unseasonably hot and dry. The trees have the strength to ask. The struggling annual seedlings do something more akin to sad whining/moaning. And when you water, you can feel the relief in that particular spot.
Anyone can talk with plants. It’s not some special super power. The hardest part is figuring out how to listen. For those who aren’t empaths, I’m told certain drugs help to open those doors in the mind. I’m sure meditation is another route. Or visualization. There’s many ways to get there.
Plants are pretty simple. They usually want water. They appreciate compost or mulch. Sometimes slaughtering their enemies. Sometimes they want friends.
But mostly, they want water.
Eating the rich: 🙅♀️ high risk of prion diseases, high levels of lead and mercury contamination via bioaccumulation.
Composting the rich: 🙋♀️ no risk of prion diseases, good for plants, bioaccumulated contaminants removed from food supply, can feed more people.
This is unconscionable.
To advocate the composting of the rich is morally irresponsible if you don’t provide information on how to compost meat and make bone meal fertilizer.

Hawthorn
Hey guys, does anyone have experience with hawthorn berry preparations? I use a rounded tablespoon of dried whole berries and make a decoction using 12mL of water simmered for ~20 minutes. I've seen many herbalists make tinctures and decoctions from whole berries, but I crush them with my mortar and pestle first. I find that the fragrance and color aren't released if I don't. It makes a lovely tea this way.
However, it recently came to my attention that there's cyanide in the seeds, just like many other fruits in the rose family. I have a hunch that there's not a significant amount (like in almonds, whereas a cup or two of apple seeds could be fatal) but I haven't been able to find any sources to confirm. I also don't know if heat would deactivate the amygdalin from becoming HCN. I've been drinking this everyday for a few weeks now and I feel fine, but I just want to be cautious since hawthorn is a tonic and taken over a long period of time.

Rise of the Empire
Today begins the most exciting phase in my life. My poop empire is becoming reality.
Step 1
Fish do what they do in here.
Step 2
Waste is filtered, settled and gathered in buckets - ever so many buckets - then settled some more.
Step 3
Water is poured off from the waste as it settles and that water is used to grow sunflowers and whatnot.
Step 4
The settled waste is transferred to a newly constructed, state-of-the-art, secure fermentation facility (two trash cans hid behind tall grass under the rose apple tree)
Step 5
Sludgy stuff is aerated by a 12 volt live well air pump run by a battery and a small solar panel.
Step 6
After the sludge solutions ferments for some time(actual time TBD) and the majority of ammonia is broken down, the resulting solution is stable enough to bottle and give/barter/sell to like-minded gardeners as a natural fertilizer.

Hello! This here is a v-stitched pine needle basket I completed last December. I gathered these needles in the southern Sierras, near King’s Canyon National Park. It’s my first pine needle basket with handles, so I’m still holding on to it. ;)

These stores are doing it to push out the competition with prices they can’t match so that they’re the ONLY option for customers (like Wal-Mart’s done since its start), then they’ll gouge the price once entire communities rely upon them as the SOLE food-provider
Because if the only store around is Dollar General / Family Dollar, where else can you go?
