Puting someone in a pedestal is not love. Well, it is, but it's the love for the idea you created about that someone, not really the love for them.
First of all I need to clarify: I don't hate mileven because "I hate Eleven and she's in the way", quite the opposite, I hate mileven because I love my girl and she deserves so, so much better than a guy who doesn't see her as herself, but as the idea of "hero" he created of her. Mike only sees her as a "hero".
I was talking to a friend of mine about mileven x byler and we also talked a bit about lumax. The conversation:
We both agree that mileven could only, ONLY be a good couple if they didn't rush it FOR EL. If mileven only started happening in the ending of S3 or early S4 episodes, I'd be happy with mileven, but no, they put my babygirl to kiss that boy when she didn't even knew her favorite color, her favorite clothes, she didn't had a sense of "self" because she was raised in that fucking lab, she knew NOTHING about herself, but the duffers thought that a good idea was putting her to kiss before even knowing who she was. Throw sticks and stones at me, I don't care, my girl deserves so, so much better. If Mileven happened the same way Lumax did (Lumax forever one of my favorite couples btw), Mileven could be so, so much better. But I don't like the "version" of Mileven we have.
Now, Byler could be so, so much more complex. I really want to understand the phenomenon that happened with this fandom; the main characters of the show where ALWAYS the marginalized ones, specially in the date they're in (80's), characters who faced racism, ableism and homophobia, BUT some people are really angry at, for example, the scene of Will coming out. I know it could've been better, but calling it unnecessary??? Babe, I fear you've missed the point, the context of it all. It's little study, but guys, the early 80's is when all that AIDS epidemic (?) started/gained force, so, gay people started to be way, way more marginalized, how can you say to my face that scene was unnecessary? His fear of coming out in the context they're in, the fear of Vecna using this against him??? The phenomenon in this fandom is: the show, with the main audience being the ones who can relate deeply to those characters, being now filled with people who would be the ones TO BULLY those characters. Also, the most fan favorite character being the "golden boy" instead of one of the 'outcasts' is something.
Mike and Will deserved a better ending, Eleven deserved to be happy and at peace after being raised in hell, Lumax got to have the happy ending they deserved, Dustin and Suzie? I don't even know what happened to Suzie, that's also something really off about this season, but at least Dustin got to go at uni. A bad finale is a bad finale, guys, they picked up ALL Mike's, Will's and Eleven's potential and threw in the trash.
