The subconscious levels in Split Fiction made me weep
What do you mean Mio’s final boss is the fear and isolation that protected her for so long but is now harming her and Zoe can help her fight it because she’s not scared of connection?
What do you mean Zoe’s final boss is grief and guilt so huge and overwhelming she can’t even look at it or stay standing and Mio can help her fight it because she’s not scared of darkness??
spit fiction <3
one too many sci-fi movies
rotating them
been playing split fiction with my parents (just got to dragon world) and it's been a good time
very silly very fun very dramatic
you know i REALLY don't think that mio's actress got the memo that mio WASN'T supposed to be madly in love with zoe. i mean. c'mon.
what the fuck.
Jump!
Zoe,Jump!!!
loving and maybe kissing
zoe and mio sitting closer as the game goes on🥺
the thing that made me fall in love with split fiction wasnt anything zoe and mio did to start. it wasnt even the gameplay yet, tho obvi all of that is good
it was that part in the subway of mio's story, where you sit in a plastic chair, fall, and it deals half your health worth of damage.
because that means either a) mio specifically wrote those chairs to be like that b) the machine somehow wrote wholecloth that the chairs are shit, which is in a funny way a statement abt ai, or c) mio and zoe are BOTH the kind of people who lean too far back in chairs and then act surprised when they fall.
and for some reason that just fucking enchanted me so much, now im turbo insane abt this game
finished split fiction with my girlfriend yesterday and have been itching to draw these two since
We are brilliant!
i actually really appreciate the generic-ness of split fiction's in-universe stories. like sure, they're complete genre cliches (and we can talk about the disdain for genre stories another time for sure), really milquetoast fantasy and sci-fi fare.
but then split fiction says, that's still better than anything rader's machine could ever come up with, and the most generic, cliche stories written by human beings are still worth saving from the maw of ai. because--well, they're written by human beings, with bits of those human lives seeping in.
mio's standard-fare cyberpunk future city with ninjas has a bunch of cars and motorbikes in it because her dad was a mechanic. it has beautiful screens and buildings and graffiti and also a game of hopscotch drawn in chalk on the ground because it comes from a childhood growing up in the city. her video-game-ass invade-the-secret-lab-after-everyone-else-gets-blown-up plot comes from her desire (and inability) to save her father.
zoe's extremely conflict-averse stories (one that's almost literally "saving stray cats in the alps") come from her desire to return to her childhood with her sister, to build gentler, happier endings for someone who didn't get one. the shapeshifting comes from a love of animals. the silly farting pigs come from a kid's imagination (and coping mechanism). and i mean, i don't care how cliche you think it is, dragons are just objectively cool always.
neither zoe nor mio are, perhaps, Good Writers or Talented Writers. but they are sincere writers, and that's worth everything.
(obscuring username as not to single anybody out + not negative. just in case someones shy) but this is actually what we did with our journals at first too. we used lighthouse for some time, alongside discord/simplyplural. but with simplyplural being left and not wanting to be as on our phone/computer, we switched to paper.
for people with higher system counts, there are actually really good paperback journal 'packs' you can get at most stationary stores. if buying a 10/15$ journal seems too intimidating, you can get these packs for like, 10 dollars total, and each one only has about 40ish pages.
this way if you have parts that dont front as frequently, you dont have anyone worrying about 'waste' while still providing them their own space. these are just a few examples.
something unexpected this ended up helping with was actually our individual memories too. i noticed some people asking 'how do you journal if you're blurry/have bad memory as a part?' and, well, that's actually why i started doing it. i wanted to remember more than just 'feeling bad' whenever i fronted, so i carry my journal with me and write down basically like, everything.
even just passing thoughts like 'i kind of wish we had beef strips at home for dinner' or 'im really excited for artfight this year'. when you're trying to recover as a system, especially as a part thats been heavily slotted with a lot of 'negative' emotions, its important to give yourself the space to express more than those things. if you only ever remember yourself as being 'angry/bad' then you wont develop much past that, and you start to internalize that shit and really hate yourself.
journaling has been a great outlet for me to vent and draw my own stuff, but it's also given me some dignity and the space to feel like a person outside of just being like. traumatized. i sort of use it as a vault of everything about me, good and bad, important and trivial.
also like, importantly, from both an eco friendly and anticap standpoint, you can really just use stuff you have lying around the house already. i think personalizing your journal is important, but you can also do that without going out and buying 56347875 things. personally i got really into junk journaling alongside writing and drawing, because it gave me a spot to put a lot of the cool stuff that other people would think is trash.
if im not a lost cause neither are you
