Description: After moving to the USA from England to start her career as an NXT superstar, Ciara gets to meet her long time crush, NXT champion Finn Balor. It's clear the pair have chemistry, but when tensions start to rise, will they find they want more than a no strings attached relationship?
So this is the first piece of fanfic I have written literally ever. I will be posting them here periodically, but I already have 6 chapters out on my Wattpad, AO3 and FanFiction pages.
This series will involve romance, drama and (although it will take a little while) some smutt too. Hope you enjoy it! 😊
6. Distractions
Three weeks passed before I knew it, and true to his word, Fergal had barely spoken to me since the night we went to dinner. He'd smiled and said hello in the corridors, but other than that we were perfect strangers to one another.
It was probably for the best really as I hadn't been with anyone for a while and still couldn't get the thoughts of that night out of my head; his body pushed against mine, the feeling of his warm breath tickling my lips.
I arrived at the Performance Center feeling incredibly nervous. My first match wasn't until next week but even still, I was terrified of screwing up on my first show. I changed into my new ring gear and started my warm up, when there was a knock on the door. When I opened it, Paul was smiling warmly at the sight of me ready to make my debut.
"Hi! I just wanted to say good luck for tonight. How are you feeling?"
"Not gonna lie, I'm kind of terrified," I giggled nervously, "but I can't wait."
"You're gonna be great! Fergal tells me you've been working really hard so I have every faith in you."
I was half tempted to tell him that I've barely spoken to or even seen Fergal for weeks but resisted the urge. I didn't want it to seem like I cared.
"Anyway, knock 'em dead! Oh, and have fun of course!" he waved goodbye and I finished my stretches.
After my warmup, I decided to walk off my nerves. I was going at a fairly brisk pace and not really paying attention to my surroundings, so it was no wonder that as I rounded a corner a little too quickly, I walked head first into somebody, nearly knocking me off my feet.
"Shit, are you OK?" came a familiar Irish accent.
"Umm yeah, sorry, that was my fault"
"Any particular reason you're power walking through the corridors?" Fergal asked, slightly concerned but also clearly holding back a laugh.
"Just trying to walk off the nerves. Sorry again, I didn't mean to tackle you.. "
"Oh, I'd like to see you try!" he taunted, grinning playfully, "Listen, I'm glad you bumped into me actually. I wanted to wish you good luck for tonight. I know you're nervous but, once you get out there the adrenaline will kick in so just enjoy it."
With the warm tone he was using now, it was hard to believe that he'd spent the last few weeks either ignoring or avoiding me.
"Thanks Fergal, I just hope people react. Even if it's badly."
"You'll be fine," he put a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "I've gotta go, but we'll talk later OK?"
I nodded, hoping he meant that and wasn't just saying it to make me feel better. He turned and walked off down the corridor before stopping, seemingly remembering something.
"Oh, Ciara! The ring gear looks great by the way. You're like a... sexy assassin," he chuckled and licked his lower lip, looking me up and down for a few seconds too long before peeling his eyes away and turning back around, continuing on up the corridor.

Raquelle and Dakota were headed to the ring to cut their promo. The chorus of boos was overwhelming, and I was relieved that the crowd seemed particularly rowdy tonight.
"You know, since Raquelle and I have been teaming up, we have been unstoppable here in NXT. We've beaten every tag team here! And what do we have to show for it? Nothing. No title matches. No Takeover main events. Nothing!" Dakota paused to measure the crowds reaction. "Meanwhile, the women's tag team champions, Shayna and Nia are hiding over on Raw because they KNOW if they stepped to us, they would lose those titles. And all Teegan Nox needs to do is bat her eyelashes at William Regal and she gets a title opportunity against Io Shirai the same night. And even then, she blew it. We have shown time and time again that we are better than her, and we are sick and tired of being overlooked!"
That was Tegan's cue. Her music hit and she headed out to the stage, mic in hand.
"Woah, Woah, Dakota. Let me get one thing straight. The ONLY reason I lost that match is because she-hulk over there attacked me from behind," she gestured to Raquelle, infuriating her. "And as far as you beating every tag time in NXT goes well, I'm sorry to disappoint you but that's just not true. Because you haven't beaten me."
"Tegan, sweetie, as happy as I would be to beat you down... Again. As much as I would LOVE to put you on the shelf... AGAIN. You don't have a tag team partner," Dakota interrupted, smirking and giggling with Raquelle.
Tegan beamed upon hearing this as I prepared to make my entrance.
"You know, I was hoping you would say that. Because you're about to meet her," Tegan stepped aside as my music (See media 2 above) hit and I stepped out onto the stage. We began slowly walking down the ramp before breaking into a run and diving into the ring in perfect synchronisation.
The combination of my nerves plus the raucous crowd only fuelled my adrenaline as we started wailing on the duo. After knocking Dakota down to her knees, Tegan hit the shiniest wizard, but as she turned around she ran straight into Raquelle's Tequila Shot. She smiled menacingly at Tegan on the floor. Now was my chance to do my finisher.
Diving at her, she caught me and lifted me onto her shoulders to power bomb me, and I reversed it into my Natural 20, just like Fergal had shown me.
The thought of Fergal once again took me back to that night as I imagined how his lips would taste. But my daydreaming distracted me and I dived over too enthusiastically, leaving me with little time to ready my legs for the impact. As I landed, I felt a painful twinge in my knee, and knew I'd messed up.
It didn't seem as if anyone else had noticed my mistake, and I wanted to keep it that way until I got backstage. I stood up, helping Tegan to her feet and celebrated in the ring for a while before heading back up the ramp and into the back.
When I was safely out of sight, I let the facade drop and Paul sent me immediately to medical. After examining my knee, it seemed that I'd gotten lucky this time, and all it needed was a few days rest. I felt the weight of my shoulders dropping, relieved. I'd been terrified that my WWE career was almost over before it began, but I had to be more careful in the future.

After checking in with Paul I went home to rest my leg. I had just put some ice on it when there was a loud knocking on the door and behind it was Fergal, pale and panicked.
"Are you OK? Is it injured? What happened?" he fired questions at me, frantically, storming past me and into my apartment.
"Woah Fergal. Calm down. I'm fine. I just need rest," I assured him.
Fergal breathed a sigh of relief before taking a seat on the sofa and speaking, more calmly this time.
"What happened? I've seen you do that move a hundred times and you've never messed it up."
I felt confused. He's been avoiding me for weeks. There's no way he could have seen me practicing my finisher. Unless...
"You've been watching me practice?" I snapped bitterly.
"Yeah, I was worried about you," he mumbled, taken aback slightly.
"You've been avoiding me! You've barely said two words to me in weeks and now you're worried about me!?"
"Ciara... I'm sorry OK? I shouldn't have just blanked you like that. It was selfish of me," he was avoiding eye contact and genuinely seemed remorseful. "Look... I'm not good at resisting temptation. If I want something, someone, I won't stop until I get it. I just figured it would be easier on you if I distanced myself-"
"See that's the whole problem, Fergal," I interrupted. "You approached me, you asked me out, you came on to me. And then, when you were just about to kiss me, you backed out. You were my only friend here, and you just abandoned me and now you're saying you were doing me a favour. You barely even know me! What makes you think you know what's best for me?"
"I just thought-"
"You just thought that I was some naive, innocent girl, and that if I got involved with you I'd fall in love and get my heart broken." A mixture of pain and adrenaline gave me the confidence to vent all of my frustrations from the past few weeks.
Fergal was staring attentively into my eyes, placating me somewhat. I took a breath and gave him a reassuring smile.
"Fergal, I made my intentions clear before, my career is my priority. I'm much stronger than I look. I have no intention of falling in love with you, and I certainly don't need you protecting me."
"I'll keep that in mind," Fergal promised, now smiling sheepishly. "So why did you botch that move?"
"Umm, no reason. I just got distracted," I insisted, but my reddening cheeks gave me away.
"Ciara..." he snickered knowingly, "what were you thinking about? Be honest."
I collapsed next to him, trying to think of a lie he wouldn't see through, before giving up and accepting my fate.
"I was just... Thinking about that night..." I hesitated, not daring to look him in the eyes. "About... What would have happened if you had stayed..."
Fergal was obviously expecting my answer, but he still couldn't help grinning like a Cheshire cat upon hearing me actually admit it out loud. He opened his mouth to say something, but I cut him off before he could.
"But it's not a big deal OK? Don't get the wrong idea. It's just... Been a while. That's all..." I urged, staring into my lap and ignoring the genuine, unabashed giggles coming from the man next to me. "it won't happen again..."
He managed to collect himself before standing up and crouching in front of me. The mood in the room shifted as he cupped my cheek, and my eyes met his.
"I know. I'll make sure of it mo ghrá."
"Wh.. What do you mean?" my breath hitched as I waited for his answer
"It's simple. You have needs, and I'm going to satisfy them. I'm gonna sleep with you," he smirked, his eyes laser focused on mine, like a hungry wolf hunting it's prey. "Any questions?"

A/N - mo ghrá = my love
Ooft we getting spicy now! Word of warning, the next chapter will be NSFW so if you aren't into that, you may want to skip it. I'll try and fill in any blanks in the chapter after so that no one misses out on the plot. It's gonna be my first time writing smut so bare with me 😂 hope you enjoyed it!
