Final Sunday IRC podfIDIC chat
Our final Sunday IRC chat will start in 3 minutes and continue for the following two hours. Please feel free to stop by and work on ANY of the three seeds! You can get to the chat with this link.
Week 4
Seed 2 [Character] rounded the corner and saw [Character] coming from the other direction. âI really didnât expect to see you here.â âWhy not?â âBecause [reason].â "Want some company?" "[Response].â They kept walking and saw [a third character] hurrying down the sidewalk. "Hi [Character]. This is [Character], my [something]." [Character] nodded, but [they] didn't stop to chat. "Sorry, I'm late to [event]!" [They] rushed off. "Did you have to lie?" "Was I lying?" Seed 3 [Character] sat beside the brook and let [subject] tumble through [their] mind. Perhaps it was a mistake, [pursuing course of action], but [they] couldn't see a better choice. [They] pulled a book out of their bag, running [their] fingers over the cover. It fell open to a much-read passage, and [they] tried to immerse [themself] in the familiar words. However, [they] failed, and what-ifs kept running through [their] mind. What if [Character] was right, and [alternative course of action] was the correct one? What if [Character]'s course of action was the best one, but there would still be dire consequences like [(dramatic) consequence]. [Character] closed the volume. No, [they] decided, [course of action] was the best thing to do, and [they] were going to do it. [They] tucked the book back in their bag and stood up [adverb]. It was time.
Week 2 reveals, Week 3 seed posted
The week 2 collection has been revealed here.
The week 3 seed (no-dialogue version) has been posted here.
And the next audiosnippers chat begins now and will continue for two hours!
PodfIDIC Seed 2
Welcome to podfIDIC's second seed script! Each week during the month of January we'll post a seed script in multiple iterations, structured differently so you can choose the starting place that works best for you. This week's seed has two versions; if you'd like the greater support of a seed with all the blanks completely filled in, check out Seed 1: Version 3. You are free to use either of the versions or a combination thereof â they're a seed from which you can build, not limits to fence you in. You are free to change all of the blanks or none of them; to add, remove, or alter any of the words in any of the versions (even if they are not blanks); and to build from the seed in any direction. To see some of the possibilities, check out Seed 1 and the stories people created. Version 1 has blanks left for you to fill in to tell the story. Version 2 builds on this, giving several different possibilities of what you might choose (though youâre always welcome to choose none of the ones given and create your own!).
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
The podfIDIC week 1 collection has posted! 20 fanworks so far (and more on the way!) all from the same seed script. We hope you enjoy hearing the diversity of fanworks that came from a single starting place. If exploring the collection inspires you, you're welcome to add works at any time until January 31st!
First official podfIDIC chat!
If anybody is in the mood for brainstorming or sprinting on podfIDIC projects tonight, you'll find a couple of us still in the audiosnippers chat here happy to join you!
PodfIDIC Seed 1
Version 1 [Character] accepted the cup of tea and took a sip. "That's an unusual choice." "I thought you might [reaction] it." [Character] [action]. "Careful." "Mmm." They looked at each other. "It tastes a bit like [flavor]." "Yes." [Character] [action]. "I thought it was [description], considering the circumstances." [Character] [action]. Version 2 [Character] accepted the cup of tea and took a sip. "That's an unusual choice." "I thought you might [miss / detest / appreciate / notice /______ ] it." [Character] [fell over / bowed / raised an eyebrow / plonked down /______ ]. "Careful." "Mmm." They looked at each other. "It tastes a bit like [vanilla / desperation / cyanide / love /_______ ]." "Yes." [Character] [smirked / inclined their head / shrugged /_______ ]. "I thought it was [festive / a terrible idea / auspicious / a good reminder /_______ ], considering the circumstances." [Character] [choked on their tea / burst out laughing / started to cry / reached out with a smile /_______ ]. Version 3 [Character 1] accepted the cup of tea and took a sip. "That's an unusual choice." "I thought you might enjoy it." [Character 2] sat down. "Careful." "Mmm." They looked at each other. "It tastes a bit like almonds." "Yes." [Character 2] smiled. "I thought it was appropriate, considering the circumstances." [Character 1] coughed.
Once you've created a fanwork based on the seed, we ask that you upload it to the podfIDIC: Seed 1 collection at AO3. The collection will remain unrevealed until Saturday, Jan. 10 at 12:00 pm EST. At that point it will be revealed and Seed 2 will be posted.
However, if you're still creating, that's awesome! The collection will remain open for new works until Jan. 31 at 12:00 pm EST, at which point it will be closed and the Master List of all fanworks created for podfIDIC will be posted.
podfIDIC FAQ
This FAQ can also be found at Dreamwidth here. The first seed script is posted here.
What does the name podfIDIC mean? IDIC is a term from Star Trek that means Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations. For us, podfIDIC â a combination of podfic + IDIC â is about showcasing how the differences between us, as creators and individuals, lead to such an amazing array of different fanworks, even when we all begin from the same starting script! What is the PodfIDIC challenge? At its heart, podfIDIC is about performance and (we hope!) play. Each week, we will reveal a new short script â called a seed â for participants to use to create their own audio-based work. There will be four seeds throughout the course of the challenge, each one with a different shape and emphasis, and they will be posted on tumblr, dreamwidth, and livejournal. The seeds are there to be a common starting point from which you can grow your own fanwork; you can elaborate on the text a lot or a little and make performance choices that inform your final work in ways that work with â or perhaps subvert â the given seed text. Perhaps you want to make a soundscape or a dialogue between bots consisting solely of beeps and effects. Perhaps you want to have a werewolf and a vampire fighting off the zombie apocalypse or two people shyly courting centuries in the past (or future!). That would be awesome, and we look forward to hearing your work! The seeds were created to be ambiguous, but we admit they're not universal. However, just as The Bad Sleep Well and The Lion King are adaptations of Hamlet, you can adapt the seed to the milieu of your fandom and its characters. The seeds will be structured in a variety of ways. One will be a mix of dialogue and narration, one will be heavily dialogue, one will be heavily narration, and one will be a surprise! Can you show me an example? We can!Â
Want to create podfic with complete creative freedom, up to and including subverting the text?
Want to explore the ways performance can shape a story?
