This Photo Of A Young Transgender Girl Will Make You Rethink Those NC Bathroom Laws
New Jersey photographer Meg Bitton makes an elegant, yet simple point about North Carolina’s bathroom law with a photo.

Forgive the rambling but this sits with me wrong. This is a child, a young child, and she’s dolled up like an adult. Painting up a child to be sexually appealing and then using her as a prop like “if these laws happen she will have to go to the men’s bathroom and be raped” is honestly kind of sickening to me. There’s no need to sexualize trans girls (especially young children????) just to make a point. Everyone deserves a bathroom where they can do their business safely and privately. The bathroom debate has been reduced to extreme examples and hypothetic hyperbolic scenarios, from both sides, and there’s honestly no reason that a child needs to be sexualized in order to prove that trans people can pass enough to “deserve” a safe bathroom.

My favorite thing about this whole thing -> your replies to the comments that would blow my head off. So well-written. So inviting. So reasonable. Thank you.
Hey, thanks! I'm not trying to start arguments or make fun of people so I try to be clear in my explanations so everyone can get on board with wondering why gendered marketing is so aggressive 👌🏼
Pointlessly gendered potato chips from a German supermarket.
Question about the post with the electric guitar. It's literally a guitar that's smaller, lighter, with a skinnier neck and shorter scale? Granted it's pink, but I'm pretty sure it's available in black and dark blue as well? I mean, as far as I know the average height/size for people is shorter for girls? And even if they're the same height most girls have sort of a smaller build, but again I might be wrong. All I know is that 13 year old me (boy) would have loved a smaller short scale guitar.
It isn't the existence of the guitars that is the problem, but rather the way they are marketed to further uphold gender binaries. It's not just smaller guitars for people with smaller hands, it's specifically marketed to women, creating an unnecessary divide between men and women. Thirteen-year-old boys with smaller hands are not the target demographic for this product, and as such, would most likely not choose these guitars, simply because they're marketed to women. Guitars don't need a gendered aspect, design, style, and size are all gender neutral details. Or, should be at least. The post you're referring to has a crash course on several reasons why gendered marketing is bad, so if you haven't, you should check it out!-O
Body wash for men, with descriptive titles like "Energy" and "Magnetic"
Here’s an example of sexism in the media. It’s very subtle, but it’s insidious, and it’s everywhere.
Men’s washroom and women’s washroom, each with an ad in the mirror. Both ads are for the same car. However, the text is slightly changed - in the men’s, it tells you that you look a million bucks but would look even better in that car. In the women’s, it gives you concern that you’re having a bad hair day but that’d be okay if you had that car.
The men’s ad assumes you’re confident and powerful and tries to optimize that image. The women’s ad undermines your opinion of yourself and tells you how to fix it.
Seriously. That shit is fucked.
As a woman, if my butt is swollen and bloody, my major concern is keeping it soft, supple, moist and cucumber-scented.
