I must not be watching the same Disenchantment as everyone else because for every opinion that I see online, I have the exact opposite. People call it boring, and I'm like--huh? What? The series has so many twists and turns and wild adventures. Bean's evil mother trying to marry her off to the devil, a demon getting trapped in heaven, crazy romps in a steampunk city, mysterious conspiracies, Elfo's secret past...every episode keeps me entertained.
Disenchantment also has plenty of queer elements, including two men in a relationship, lots of gay/bi background characters and an entire episode devoted to Bean's relationship with a mermaid. No subtle queerness with "hints" and "clues" that homophobic viewers can deny--it's all out there in the open.
The art and design is incredible, too. Steamland in particular has so much attention to detail. Every background, character and clothing design contributes to a fully immersive 1800s aesthetic. I also love the 3D animation that reminds me of the Planet Express ship. Luci looks great, too: a 2D silhouette that somehow looks 3D in movement, not like a sheet of paper.
The jokes land, the plot is entertaining, all the characters are lovable. Pacing is probably the biggest issue, but it's not so distracting that it ruins the show. The writers just take risks.
I think Matt Groening challenged himself with this one. The serialization is a departure from his other shows, which focus on one-offs that famously reset by the start of the next episode. When something changes in Disenchantment, the change actually sticks.
Maybe people just had the wrong expectations for it? I could see why people would expect another episodic series that they can pick up from anywhere. Nope, you'll have to actually sit down and watch this one.

Four years ago today.
May 2nd, the day Attack on Titan left me betrayed. The day the series officially became unwatchable.
The day we lost Sasha Braus.
It has been four years to the day that Chapter 105, Assassin's Bullet, the single most evil and uncalled for chapter in the entire Titan saga, was leaked here on Tumblr.
The day Sasha was brutally taken away without any just cause or reason, and where the true heart of the series was lost as the story continued to get darker and where it prioritized politics over our beloved characters.
This ga have never been the same for me since then. I still get nightmares flashing back to those scenes of Sasha bleeding out, the light leaving her eyes and unable to speak, as everything we had come to live about her was stolen from us . Sasha brought such light and warmth to the story with her smile and presence in the manga and anime, and ever since then I have felt nothing but rage and hatred for this story but also the man who killed her off, Hajime Isayama.
And all for WHAT in the end??? To pace the way for Gabi Braun, in the most uncalled for turn of events in the entire story. Sasha had become a cheap plot device for a character despised for her murderous zeal and obnoxious presence. The author worked no stop to pry sympathy for Gabi in a forced redemption arc where she had no productive place in the story. Just a cheap means to replacing one of the most beloved characters in the story who just coincidentally was given the same skill set in battle with a gun, and suddenly everything and everyone that was profoundly connected to Sasha was all given to fucking Gabi Braun. And now the story barely even remembers who she was as Sasha's murderer was allowed to walk and essentially steal the story from Eren Yeager and his former friends.
And again, ALL FOR WHAT END?
There is no end to my hatred for Isayama, and my resentment to him for the inappropriate fate he dealt to Sasha. For having brought up one of the worst and most despicable fandoms in the form of Gabi's defenders. "Gabi did nothing wrong" is as much an insult to Sasha as it is an insult to our intelligence.
And our beloved potato girl deserves so much better than what she got.
I never wanted to remember Sasha for how she was killed, for me that was indeed a nightmare come true. It has negatively affected my psyche and my mood has constantly been ruined by those images repeating themselves in my mind. Made all that much worse by the events of the anime.
Better fucking understand. It is not the ending that ruined Attack on Titan. It was Assassin's Bullet. And in the end, Isayama never justified the choice he made.
i still hope for the day where I finally tell the man exactly what I think of him and his so called masterpiece. Four years on, I haven't and I will NEVER forgive those images of Sasha bleeding to death and of all that followed in its wake.
Go to hell, Hajime Isayama. You made a choice. You should have left well enough alone.
There is no Attack on Titan without Sasha.

More SpyxFamily random thoughts… this time on names and meanings
I’m planning to do a larger post on names in the future, but while I love how Yor’s name means “night” (especially with her job as an assassin) I adore how her maiden name Briar and her association with roses leads to Briar Rose.
The famous fairytale of Sleeping Beauty and to one extension, the name Princess Aurora.
What does aurora mean in a literary sense? The dawn.
And of course we know Twilight the master spy, but little did we know Yor can also be (in long winded way) representative of the dawn.
This is interesting to see how the twilight and the dawn are viewed as indecisive to be either/neither day or night, much like how Yor and Loid both lead double lives. Whether this is made intentional by Endo or not, who knows. I just thought it was a cool thing to point out.
Also Anya’s powers work best with the moon, the brightest thing in the night, so she fits between them perfectly.

Nick's bisexuality arc is probably one of - if not the - best part of heartstopper to me. Coz it's genuinely so nice to have a plot where a questioning character gets to not only research his sexuality, but also to talk to other queer people about their identities. He doesn't know automatically how he feels and he doesn't assume what anyone else goes through, so he goes and asks other queer people about their experiences
Nick asking Charlie about how he knew he's gay and asking Tara if she felt anything for him when they were younger is so nice to see, because you can see him start to understand that he doesn't relate to those parts of their queerness. He gets a chance to compare their experiences with same-gender attraction, and it helps him to figure out that he isn't gay but that another label would fit him better
And when he does decide that he's bisexual, he's accepted without arguments. The only time someone questions it is when his mum says that he doesn't have to say he likes girls if he doesn't, and when he confirms that he does like girls, she immediately believes him
Just them depicting a arc where people believe and celebrate him for learning that he's bisexual is so beloved. You can tell that this is a show written by queer people for queer people, and the compassion they show closeted people and bisexuals is just incredible because of it
