Man, this is gorgeous. I am in love with the colors and the work that is done here. I would buy this in a heartbeat.
Oh I want.
Itād take me like six months to make, but still.
So Netflix is releasing this animated movie but hereās the thing - all backgrounds are done in AI. No actual BG artists were hired or credited for this work.
And hereās the kicker - I gave them too much credit. I realized that not even the AI users are credited apparently. Check this out:
ā+Humanā. No names, no nothing.Ā
I know itās tempting, but please donāt hate-watch this thing. Numbers equal profit even if the people watching are just doing it to mock. Donāt give Netflix and other studios even more incentive to fire more animators and replace them with machines trained on their work and skill.Ā
Hilarously, the excuse used isĀ āthere arenāt enough artistsā. Thatās not true - there are more than enough artists, but the real issue is that no one wants to pay a living wage. Hereās a short video about the reality of animation in Japan.
The biggest winners in this equation at the end of the day are the AI infrastructure owners - owners of Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, etc. Do not feed this machine, it creates more monopolization of entire industries, raises a powerful few and dehumanizes the rest.
You do you!

i love people's willingness to get hype over dumb shit.
I was driving home today and pull up to a light. As i'm slowing down i šļøšļø lock šļøšļø eyes with the dude in the car next to me. I spring into action, this is the moment I've been waiting for.
Now, something you must know about me is I drive around with several small plastic š¦crabs š¦ on my dashboard, One: for the whimsy of it all and two: on the off chance i encounter another driver who i think could benefit from witnessing them.
This young gentleman was one such someone.
As i pull up, as previously stated, our eyes lock and I hold up oneāļø fingerāļø
Perplexed by my unprompted gesticulation, the young man rolls down his window, "what the devil could this perfect stranger be about to tell me?" he might have been thinking.
I present a singular dashboard crab, green and brown, homely but not without its charm.
I study his reaction, grinning encouragingly. He's nodding, obviously intrigued by my plasticine crustacean.
I wag my finger and shake my head, removing the crab from view. Confusion again, but he leans forward, invested. I have him now.
I grab my second dashboard crab, a rotund white and brown crab, easily the most beautiful of my crabs as it sports large discernible claws of an attractive size and silhouette.
āļø TWO āļø i tell him.
He's cheering now, and rightly so, as these are delightful little beasts that anyone would be happy to encounter. But now comes the clincher, time to seal the deal.
My finger wags once more. He's awestruck, I have him completely enraptured. If a car had come and smeared us both into the pavement we would not have noticed, so wrapped up in my display were we.
I bring out my showstopper: a bright pink spider crab with delicately long legs the likes of which had never before nor since been seen in mid afternoon traffic.
As emphatically as i can express, I display all three of my dashboard crabs to this man, three fingers pressed triumphantly to the glass.
the guy is loosing it in his car, mouth wide in what i assume to be a primal shout of crab derived excitement. His arms are pumping so vigorously its shaking his stationary vehicle.
We sit there, sharing in a moment of mutual jubilation, and then the light changes, and we move forward in line. He drives off, honking his horn in rapturous exultation,
and we part ways, exactly the same perhaps but changed nonetheless.

I didnāt know cheetahs meow Iāve always thought they roar my whole life has been a lie
Ok but the other one is purring so hard
If I ever donāt reblog this assume Iām dead
Fun fact: technically, because of its inability to roar and its ability to purr, the cheetah is not aĀ ābig catā (or Great Cat) - they are still classified as Lesser Cats.
Also you havenāt heard anything until you hear them cheep.
YOU CANNOT JUST SAY THAT AND NOT PROVIDE A VIDEO
I HAVE REALISED MY MISTAKE AND SHALL RECTIFY IT:

Remember everyone:
Guerrilla gardening is for the neglected and barely-noticed little spots that see hardly any maintenance
For heavily maintained areas like golf courses, you gotta talk to people and organize. Find a person in your local government that seems most closely related to what you want to do or someone part of a gardening and/or environmentalist club or organization and send an email
Once you know your invasive species, you can get free plants from around May through about August by carefully yoinking seedlings from gravel and pavement cracks (look next to creeks, shrubby woods, and pasture) just don't get run over by a car
You must find retired old ladies who are avid gardeners. They will have all the connections you need
Volunteer at a nature center or preserve, even an hour a week, and you will learn very quickly all about invasive and native species and make lots of connections, and once you've proven yourself interested in being helpful and useful, they may let you transplant cool plants that happened to pop up in a parking area or mowed strip
If you've got access to a public library, they might host a seed swap
Happy plantcraft y'all
You can occasionally get guerrilla stuff into heavily landscaped areas, but it's going to have to be extra well-planned. Stuff is mostly likely to get weeded when it looks new or out of place, so if you can get some fairly big transplants and get them in a pattern, they might sneak by.
But otherwise, yes, talk to people at your parks board, etc. The horticulturist in charge of landscaping at a bunch of my local parks puts a ton of edible "ornamentals" into her gardens as filler, and she doesn't care if people eat them.
Tenants at the house next to mine convinced their landlord to let them replace all of the landscaping borders with native plants and edibles as long as they did the work to maintain it. He even knocked some off of their rent since he didn't need the landscaping maintained anymore.
i made phone call to a lady part of the parks service and, starting in 2024, i will be helping working on starting a prairie restoration in a local park. the horrors are 95% Apathy and to Care is your gleaming weapon
