idk about anyone else but i’ve always headcanoned that the turrets are kind of like extensions or incomplete copies of glados’s central core - they have the same voice as her and also like to sing, so it makes sense to me that to save money aperture just made a bunch of copies of the central core, stripped back most of their sapience and autonomy, and populated a bunch of little gunbots with them. this also means that they are like her little robot children

yessss you’re so right!! tbh it kinda makes sense to me if you think of most of the facility as being part of her physical body- there do seem to be these distinct classes of aperture parts that are either of her or not of her. makes for a fun kind of tension that the second game touches on a bit
