the price of magic (tpom) — Inna relies on Alice for magic. They're casting partners: a bond that cannot be broken, a necessity in order to practice magic. When Alice wakes up without her memory, Inna thinks at first that this is intentional. Magic costs something different for everyone, and for Alice, it's memories. But as they search for the culprit behind a long string of kidnappings and murders, they discover that the reason for Alice's memory loss is more sinister than they'd thought.

in exchange for the dawn (shadow wip)— Olivia is an eight-year-old witch with an interesting roommate: a 3000 year old demon that she summoned directly against her aunt's wishes. Demons really aren't as scary as everyone says they are, though, so she doesn't understand what all the fuss is about. Now if it would only stop eating all the Cheetos.

elemental wip— Rish is an Earth mage, joined by her Fire, Wind, and Water counterparts to make up a four-person team. Unwillingly conscripted into the military alongside many other elemental teams, they have a simple mission: transport the new Poison Master to the capital. Greatly removed from the ground on a floating ship, all of the Earth mages, including Rish, are severely weakened and ill. A perfect time for her childhood best friend to appear out of nowhere and try to kill her.

I want you to write for pleasure—to play. Just listen to the sounds and rhythms of the sentences you write and play with them, like a kid with a kazoo. This isn’t “free writing,” but it’s similar in that you’re relaxing control: you’re encouraging the words themselves—the sounds of them, the beats and echoes—to lead you on. For the moment, forget all the good advice that says good style is invisible, good art conceals art. Show off! Use the whole orchestra our wonderful language offers us! Write it for children, if that’s the way you can give yourself permission to do it. Write it for your ancestors. Use any narrating voice you like. If you’re familiar with a dialect or accent, use it instead of vanilla English. Be very noisy, or be hushed. Try to reproduce the action in the jerky or flowing movement of the words. Make what happens happen in the sounds of the words, the rhythms of the sentences. Have fun, cut loose, play around, repeat, invent, feel free.

freak4freak is always so awesome but another character dynamic that i think is really great is freak vs freak. you're the only person who understands me and i'm the only person who understands you. unfortunately this also does not stop either of us from hating each other and in fact it might even make everything significantly worse for everyone involved

as ive said many times i love the dynamic of "character A is in love with character B who is aromantic, and they're both aware of this and function fine with character A just enjoying being close to B even if it means not being able to actually be in a relationship with them". and because i hate allos i dont have to care if thats "unrealistic" or "puts too much stress on character A". WHO GAF!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET THIRD THING DYNAMICS FOREVER!!!!!!!!

finally figured out how i want it to open 🥰

cant decide if i want evil polyamory or not... it might be a little too evil. like i say i like evil but i think im a fake evil lover. i love sweetniceys. kicks a rock. FUCK

doubting the fact that this will turn out to be a true short story. actually wait this is a great challenge. ill set some reasonable word count cap and make myself fit the story into those parameters....maybe 20k? actually this sounds so good yesssssss

with prev point im going to have to cut down the sex scenes severely bc i think i have abt 5k written. so it would be a fourth of the story. ON THE OTHER HAND erotic fiction is a perfectly acceptable form of art. sooo....

big fan of when a character metaphorically sweeps something under the rug, but you can feel them flinch every time they walk over it and feel the crumbs beneath their feet

I love it when grieving characters start adopting the features of a person who has died, wearing their keepsakes, adopting their mannerisms, speaking like they did. letting the dead live through them as if they never left, as if they never died. Plus points if they start losing who they are in the process, one life for another, in a way.

tbh im not entirely immune to a villain with a tragic backstory but i do think villain origins are a lot more interesting when the focus is less "here is the original sin, the first big bad thing that happened to them that made them who they are" and more "here is the first time a person who maybe otherwise felt powerless in their life realized that they could hurt someone and get away with it"
