Hanahaki disease is a psychosomatic illness. It's a thing that your body does in response to stress over constantly repressing/concealing your feelings in settings with high background magic. It's like you've been ignoring pain for a long time and suddenly your vision starts going dark, because your affected body is just YANKING on random alerts trying to get you to PAY ATTENTION there is a PROBLEM. Yes the flowers do really exist. So do non-magical psychosomatic symptoms. The flowers aren't special.

This does of course open up the trope to options for non-romantic concealed feelings. Which I think is great. There is something viscerally satisfying about the person who seems so outwardly chipper coughing and hacking and spitting up Depression Flowers so now everyone has to know they're hurting. Isn't there?

What I have learned about spinning so far:

Spinning is the art of building up rotational tension, then releasing it quickly enough to smash the fibres together.

If you're good you can do this smoothly while standing up, but my starter guide was lying when they said this was easier for beginners.

There is a LOT of vocabulary associated with spinning, all of it highly esoteric and charmingly germanic.

If I was a mediaeval woman and I saw someone using a spinning wheel for the first time, I would be like. Gimme. Gimme that. I need that.

Spinning gets you thinking things like, "Huh, I wonder if my aunt ever got those ewe lambs she was talking about?"

protagonists can and will be sexist, racist, insensitive, cruel, stupid, etc, especially towards the beginning of a story. these are called character flaws and they are a surprise tool that will lead to narrative fulfillment later

funny thing about anxiety is sometimes it kind of breaks your sense of danger. like i am known for repeatedly putting myself in situations that make my friends go "bro you couldve died. werent you scared?" and the answer is 👍 yjeah. i did it scared. i do everything scared. i didnt know that was the actual important kind of scary because i usually have to ignore my fears to function in society. it will happen again. watch out.
