Genuinely, why are people making fun of Rhaenyra for fumbling that first strike at Otto's head? Theon who'd been sword trained his whole life couldn't get Rodrick's head off in 5 strikes and had to stomp it off in the end. Rhaenyra who's never held a sword in her life cut it clean off second try 💀

that's what people have issues with. and alicent is just one thing, so yeah when we see it like that (because it is like that, she's choosing rhaenyra and sacrificing everyone else in the process), we get annoyed

alicent literally stood between meleys and aegon and now she's sending him to die... she's always known what he is, she protected him and hid his actions (like with diana the maid)

he hasn't done any new bad thing since becoming king, he's actually tried to be good (example: the scene in the throne room when he tries to help the shepherd get is sheep back). she was horrified when he came back hurt. why stand between death and him one day, and the next suddenly wish him dead? it's not coherent

we're not mindless haters, we have genuine reasons to hate what they've done to the characters.

nettles + rhaena + jace + maelor + alicent + aemond and aegon turning on each other... it adds up and feels like they don't care about these characters or the important details of the story

That's completely. Ok you're entitled to your opinion, as I am entitled to mine.

I do agree that excluding a bunch of important characters sucks.

Mothers don't turn on their children and wish them dead.

What about Daeron? He's a child, 16 years old, he's good and kind and she's surrendering him? He'll die and she knows it. Also she's sending her brother Gwayne to his death. Why would she ever put them at risk?

Then, is she ready to have the man who murdered Jaehaerys as king consort? Her and Rhaenyra might have shared love once but they were enemies for twenty years.

Alicent hated that Rhaenyra had bastards to the point that she fed that idea to Aegon and Aemond, which caused Aemond to lose an eye, and now she wants those bastards on the throne?

Women don't want their entire families killed for an old flame they spent twenty years resenting.

Think realistically. Think of the people you love and who love you. Would you risk their death for an old love from two decades ago?

I do see where you're coming from and when you phrase it like that it does sound like a little too much. So again I repeat, I'm not saying the show's perfect. But I am also not saying Alicent is a good person for her actions to make sense.

And to that last paragraph, Of course not. But I do know people who, if put in the exact same scenario, I can unfortunately imagine would in fact act like that.

erasing Nettles is also a huge mistake. instead of Jace dying to protect his brothers, dying a heroic death, he dies because Rhaena couldn't control her dragon?? please, they all deserve better.

That I kinda agree with, but that one falls in the category of "I don't necessarily prefer it but I kinda see why they did it and how it fits as an adaptation". I also personally really enjoy the constant narrative they keep pushing that you cannot fully control dragons and despite the fact that they're intelligent they can and will go crazy on you if you put them under too much stress or just if they feel like it. It is what real intelligent animals do. Horses, being the closest example.

In my opinion dragons always obeying and there never being accidents is a plot hole. Cause no matter how intelligent, animals will misbehave. Especially if put involuntarily in such horrible conditions. Hell, humans misbehave whenever they want, and they're deemed most intelligent. Why wouldn't dragons?

And compared to horses who do the same shit, they're much bigger, so the consequences of their stress misbehavior are catastrophic.

I do agree that the erasure of Aegon and Viserys in the Battle of the Gullet is a dumb decision. And also the complete erasure of Nettles. But I keep convincing myself that they're using the very obviously fake ancestry of Ulf as proof that you don't need targ blood to be a rider. I do admit, though, that that might be a delusion, and I'm just convincing myself that they didn't mischaracterize Baelon like that. Honestly, that probably is a delusion.

The changes could have been good if it wasn't completely nonsensical. How can anyone believe that Alicent will sacrifice her own children for a woman she used to love twenty five years ago and spent the last two decades being enemies with?? people don't behave like that, have the show writers even met a human being?

Hm idk in my opinion it is very obvious she is realizing she has raised horrible people(apart from Helaena) and is trying to make the best choice in a situation where that is pretty much impossible.

And also the very obvious romantic feelings they have written between the two definitely play a role, as well as the fact that Alicent has no courage to stand up for anything fully. She is very uncertain in herself and very easily persuaded.

I honestly feel like the people who are only shitting on the show have never met a human being, cause real humans are like that. Nuanced and complex and often act in seemingly nonsensical ways. However rarely who is just randomly crazy or evil like people for some reason want Rhaenyra and Alicent to be.

I do agree it is not perfect, but I like it 🤷‍♂️

I know this is not a safe place to say this but I'll say it anyway. I love most of the changes the HotD show has made to the book 🫢 And the ones that I don't explicitly prefer are completely acceptable changes for a screen adaptation

Guys, a character doesn't have to be cruel and evil to be well written. Yeah HotD is not perfect, but the way people compare characters from the show to the book and say that in the book they're "cruel and evil" as means of saying they're well written compared to the show pisses me off

Like, tf you want? Do you want them to be comical Disney villains? Obviously evil characters will have depth if they're well written and not every scene will be dedicated only to portraying how EVIL they are
