Fun Facts About Pasta That You Probably Didn’t Know
Pasta has been one of the most famous staples and no doubt one of the most famous Italian cuisines. You probably think you know everything about pasta, right? I don’t think so! Here are some fun facts about Pasta brought to you by Prego Italian Restaurant in Perth and I am sure you will be surprised to know the facts.
Pasta was first eaten in China, not Italy
Typically, we all think that pasta was invented in Italy but the fact is, there have been recorded reports that showed pasta was being consumed by the Chinese population back in 5,000 B.C. Legend has it that famous explorer Marco Polo introduced the noodles to Italy in the 12th Century but the historians discovered that pre-Roman Etruscan civilization was making their own pasta back in 500 B.C.
Tomato came later into the combination
Pasta and tomatoes weren’t a perfect match from the very beginning and it’s even hard to think when we are sitting in an Italian restaurant in Peth like Prego, having delicious house-made pasta. Believe it or not, tomatoes weren’t introduced in Europe until 1519. After that, tomatoes and pasta became an iconic duo and it was only a matter of time before meatballs were added to it.
Variety and shapes! Oh you can’t count
According to the International Pasta organisation, there are more than 600 different shapes of pasta produced all over the world! How many names do we know? Spaghetti, macaroni, farfalle… it’s impossible to remember all the names no matter how much we love pasta
