admit it, weāve all fantasised about slow-dancing in the kitchen barefoot in our pyjamas at 2am in the arms of someone we love while old romantic jazz songs play softly on the radio

Athena blessed her with the ability to protect herself and men beheaded her for it.
Thatās actually a really intetesting intpretation of it I hadnāt thought of. Most people seem to think Athena turned Medusa into a gorgon as punishment for defiling her temple, but thinking that she did so to protect her from being abused again is interesting and I like it!
Athenaās hands were tied. Yes, she was a powerful Goddess, but she was very much a woman in a āboys clubā, and the true offending party (donāt think for a moment that Athena blamed Medusa for being raped in the temple, Athena knows better) held all the cards. There was nothing that Athena could do to punish the true criminal, and she was expected to punish Medusa by everyone else. Whatās a Goddess to do when she cannot punish those who need to be punished and is expected to punish not only the truly innocent party, but her most beloved follower? Use that incredible brain power she had to protect Medusa at all costs, and of course the men would see it as punishment, to be have her beauty stripped from her and sent to live in the shadows. Medusa should have been KILLED for supposedly defiling the temple, whether she truly did or not, but she was given the gift of life, and the ability to protect herself and her daughters (who she bore thanks to Poseidon). This is why Medusaās image was used to signify womanās shelters and safe houses.
Medusa means āguardian; protectressā, and she was.
holy shit.
Feministic mythology is what Iām here for
I honestly believe that people who lost their childhood, teenage years to mental illness and/or trauma are so strong for still being here. Especially once youāre about 18-25 and trying to relearn how to be in society and healthy and human.
Especially when you decide to work towards getting better.
Especially when your life isnāt where you wished it would be.
Stay alive okay? If you lost your youth, Iām sorry and Iām so proud of you for still being here. Keep fighting. Your best years are ahead of you.

A lot of people are really scared and angry because of the results of the newest climate change reports ā as they should be. But Iām already seeing a lot of posts and news reports like āHEREāS WHAT YOU CAN DO TO FIGHT GLOBAL WARMINGā and bizarrely enough, the answers are never like āweed out climate change deniers from your government, impose strict new rules for the corporations that are Ā creating most of the emissions, pour government resources into alternate forms of fuel, etc.ā Itās always like ācarpool to work!ā
Look. Of course you should be working to reduce waste in your own life. But letās not fucking pretend that consumers are the ones who made this mess. You know what another recent study found? Just 100 companies are responsible for 71% of global emissions. If the rest of us stopped ALL WASTE and fucking ascended to a higher plane of existence that no longer requires consumption of any kind, the world would still be absolutely fucked if those 100 companies keep on as they do.
I hate this personal responsibility model when it comes to conservation. By ignoring the actual source of the problem and focusing on individuals instead, guess who gets targeted? The absolute most vulnerable individuals on the planet. When people advocate personal responsibility, somehow theyāre never talking about billionaires and their private jets. Theyāre creating straw bans that will make life more dangerous for people with disabilities. Theyāre shaming women for using disposable menstrual products. Theyāre criticizing the poor and destitute for using āwastefulā products because theyāre all they can afford. Theyāre making vaguely eugenic statements about getting people in āthird world countriesā to stop ~breeding~ so much. Itās monstrous.
Stop shaming consumers for the sins of corporations and their powerful investors. Stop placing the blame at the feet of the people who already have the hardest time getting through life. Do something, and by ādo somethingā I mean buy a reusable coffee cup on the way to fucking vote. Go to a protest. Call a representative. Demand accountability from the people who got us into this mess.
All the individual effort in the world is worth naught without institutional change.
