it is eurovision saturday this weekend so important info: a couple of years ago my friends i used to watch eurovision with decided to get together on the day and watch something else. it was suggested that we should watch 'the opposite of eurovision' but we couldn't think what that would be. we decided that it would come to us in the moment. on the day we decided to watch Transformers (1986) and were there like... yeah... you know... this is the opposite of eurovision. so in short, it is official watch Transformers (1986) day this Saturday.

Can I ask how you concluded The Transformers The movie from 1986 is the oposite of the Eurovision?

It was an entirely vibes based assessment but I suppose there are the following factors:

Transformers is a thoroughly non-european franchise in 2 directions; it is simultaneously very American and very Japanese

Eurovision is about seeing new stuff every time; Transformers 1986 is a rewatch of a vintage movie

Eurovision is about peace and unity; Transformers 1986 is a war movie about robots beating the shit out of each other

Transformers is kind of a musically oriented movie

Transformers has Optimus Prime and Eurovision generally does not have Optimus Prime

If Project Hail Mary taught us anything it's that forced romance subplots have ruined movies. Too many stories about guys sacrificing themselves to save girls and not enough movies about guys sacrificing themselves to save their cool rock alien friend.

i am banned from eating my herring inside. they make me eat it on the smoking area by the loading dock, under the theory that it already smells bad there. but it was raining today which was preventing my breakfast, so i was feeling sad and hungry and then i realized that there was a large cardboard box in the dumpster from a previous delivery. like a fridge sized box. so i fished it out of the dumpster, then tipped it on its side and had a nice little cardboard cave to watch the rain and eat my fish in. which was a great experience. very soothing. very zen. at least until the security guard from the day before stepped outside to smoke. then i tried hiding from him by crawling deeper in the box, which unfortunately did not work. instead he saw a sort of damp sniveling pale hairless creature eating fish in a box, and delivered the verbal killshot of "good morning, mr. smeagol." which is how my day was ruined before 8 am.
