Firebenders with a slight glow to their eyes and whose body heat always seems just erring on feverish.

So to get it right…just collecting the claims made about Aang over the years.

“Aang is manipulative and controlling”… but somehow he’s also “too passive and never takes initiative.”

“Aang never respected Katara’s choices”… but people also accuse him of “letting her walk all over him.”

“Aang didn’t care enough about Katara”… but he’s supposedly “obsessively attached” to her.

“Aang is selfish for wanting love”… but also “emotionally unavailable and Katara does all the emotional labor.”

“Aang is immature and childish”… but apparently also “calculated and manipulative.”

“Aang forced Katara into a relationship”… even though she’s literally the one who kissed him in the finale.

“Aang only saw Katara as a prize”… but he repeatedly supported her goals, anger, leadership, and independence.

“He never respected boundaries”… while spending most of the series backing off whenever Katara was upset with him.

“Aang is toxic because he feared losing Katara”… as if attachment and vulnerability are somehow abuse now.

Can y’all at least pick and choose one narrative 🙄

Me trying to get my Malevolent moots into Deltarune:

So imagine Malevolent is a game and you play as John but Arthur has been in cahoots with Kayne the entire time and you didn't knew and Faroe is messed up and evil.

The Zutara floundering over the movie has been a lot less present than I anticipated, but it’s still funny to see the stragglers really reach. This movie is like their worst nightmare: Katara is shown to have a lot of power and influence within RC as a councilwoman and is shown being more powerful and crucial to saving the world than ever. She doesn’t fold to all of Aang’s ideas and even confronts him when she thinks he’s making the wrong decisions. At the same time, she’s very much still in a committed and healthy relationship with Aang, who does not even come close to limiting her agency in the movie at all. You couldn’t even get to Level 100 in Misinterpretation Skill to try to make it seem like that.

So it makes all these really pathetic reaches absolutely hilarious. The statue debate is back (dear god can we please end this), they’re trying to say they’re somehow broken up in the movie because it’s not distinctly mentioned that they’re married (even though they kiss and hold hands and do several other intimate things multiple times), etc. It’s clear that these people maybe saw someone else describe the movie and are just making conclusions based on that.

Kataang haters gotta be so delusional as if they watched the show purposely blind & deaf. Tell me the boy who gave her hope and optimism in a world of nothing but pain & loss is a worse partner for her than the one who chased them down countless times, emotionally manipulated her (with her necklace and the cave from her pov), helped attacking them in the cave which led to the death of Aang (if it wasn't for the spirit water she almost WASTED on said emo boy), in general attacked them multiple times, sent a killer after them and was ready to let her kill someone cause he couldn't process it's the wrong choice in the long run cause guilt would eat her alive everyday and there's no taking it back. She was so vehemently against allowing Zuko into their group, was the LAST to trust him BECAUSE of all the pain he caused them - her! She threatened him in AANG's name! She at most tolerated him after he proved himself in her eyes. It was always gonna be Kataang

Zutara is so delulu cause it relies on Katara falling for the one who caused her so much pain and is a reminder of the nation who took her mother from her, actively wanting her to be nothing but Zuko's trophy wife who sits silently next to the Fire Lord and produces heirs while at the same time those stans go batshit crazy about Aang taking away her autonomy as her own character when she gets with him

I dont think people understand that a lot of us who dont like kataang are not angry that zutara isnt canon. We are angry about the real world implications of two white guys writing all of their female characters, not just katara, in a way that reflects their misogyny. We are angry because they continuously say sexist shit to their fans and about their characters, and have for 20+ years, and not only do they not get consequences from the industry, but fans eat it up and act like these two grown ass men harassing women and girls is "deserved" and the right thing to do because they dont enjoy a ship that isn't even canon. The only ones making this a petty ship war are kataang fans and bryke supporters. Those of us on the other side have spent the past 20 years trying to explain to these people that the problem is not that we didnt get our way, its that these men are sexist. Its that they keep doubling down on their misogyny and people like it. It says a lot about how society, particularly american society, views women, and its infuriating when you are actually a woman or, you know, a decent human being. Katara gets the brunt of bryke's sexism because she is the main female character, and thats why the conversation so often centers on her and how aang treats her as a boyfriend/husband, but you dont even have to look that hard to see how badly they treat the rest of their female characters. Its ridiculous.

because the thing is that the painted lady persona that katara takes on is so she can help the villagers without her waterbending being given away. katara, who detests the fire nation for what they’ve done to her and her tribe, takes on the persona of a spirit to help a fire nation town that is being oppressed by the fire nation itself. the blue spirit is a persona that zuko takes on so he can do whatever he wants without being caught or held accountable. it isn’t born out of a strong sense of justice or compassion, and he never uses that persona to help others (except aang and appa) that are in need of help. katara’s painted lady shows you that her compassion and empathy win against any prejudice or hatred she might have, and if she sees someone in need she’ll set her prejudices aside to help them. it makes absolutely zero sense for these two to even interact in those forms, and even if they did, there’s no planet where katara’s painted lady has even an ounce of respect for zuko’s blue spirit. the painted lady in book 2 makes no sense as it is, and if it’s only there to set up some bullshit “parallel” between zuko and katara, you have to erase some of the most central traits katara has for it to even make sense.
