I haven’t watched the video yet, but wow. That really shows the difference that heat makes on this project, rather than UV.

For followers that don’t follow my other doll-nerd friends, the group has been discussing how to de-yellow vintage dolls. John (oak23, dolljunk) has been working on vintage Takara dolls, and Chris (dolldirt) posted his progress with a vintage Allan head.

last year i retrobrited a vintage barbie fashion queen head using the “clear developer on the stove” method, if anybody wants to see how that works [post 1] [post 2] (in the future i’d probably suspend a doll in the bath so nothing would touch the bottom of the pot; it did make her hair paint come off a little)

My problem with the glue wigs is that the recommended aleenes tacky glue still rehydrates when wet. So unless the doll will never have the hair humid or damp again the wig *IS* going to melt somwhat. Unfortunately 98% of the fiber I have are hanks for rerooting (not wefts) so I either reroot, make glue wefts for wigs, or figure out a good way to make lace wefts with the loose hair. It doesn’t help that im pretty lazy until properly motivated.

I’ve used Fabritac, which is more expensive but won’t go anywhere even wet.

I prefer even the white glue caps now cause they don’t slip all over the place. Pros n cons!

Liquid Fusion is my favorite for wig caps! only downside i’ve found is you have to let it cure for 24 hours before you can start on the wig itself

this feels like a dumb question, but gonna ask anyway! i just got an unoa and i’ve never had a doll with a faceplate before. how easily are you supposed to be able to get the faceplate on and off? it feels like i have to put a lot of pressure on the plate to get it on and off and that feels wrong to do, so i wonder if im missing something

it’s a damn shame i don’t have a dremel. i wanna get another of the new-body fashionistas and mod the hell out of it. it’d make a real good base for a ftm chest conversion. i also wanna acetone-shrink the head a little but i’d rather have a backup in case i fuck it up too bad. (plus the head sculpt is one of my faves)

orchids hair take 2 >.> i think it’s a bit too voluminous (and top heavy) but i still need to sand it so we will see… i am just happy it stays on without any sticky tack !

i also discovered a major flaw with one of his legs and had to fix that, it’s scary to have such big mistakes this far along! one of his legs kept on rotating inwards when standing straight when sorting that out i realized his legs were also different lengths and just _(:3」∠)_

i managed to fix that for the most part in one go but now his knees and knee joints are a mess, but at least both of his toes pint! small victories

i am happy with how easily he can touch his face even through he is a single jointed doll (he can hold it there and not just because you press it against his face lol!)

okay, im gonna not be a baby and dye my morningstardolls francisca myself (after i finish other projects). i was worried about permanently fucking her up somehow but after reading some stuff by mismantis and meanae it looks like it’s easier to remove a dyejob than i thought (using acetone-free nail polish remover). and if i don’t fuck it up i’ll be able to hot-glue suede her after too (bcos boy do some of her joints need it)

man... some of granado’s bodies would be perfect for 1/3-size avery but they’re all way too tall. if they were like 60cm they’d be perfect

Quick and easy skin texture/freckles tutorial

What you need: Pastels, old toothbrush, q-tip, brush for mixing, patience

Our vict- eh, head that needs freckles.

Scrap some bits off of your pastel stick (the finer, the better). I’m using Schmincke soft pastels (Burnt yellow ochre H plus Pouzzuli earth D). Add water, mix everything. Dip the toothbrush into the mix.

Flick the brushes onto a paper towel, to get it a bit less watery. Its not a must, but if you’re using that technique straight onto the head, you a) don’t know how vibrant the colors are and b) will get big blotches. and you’ll want small dots for a (semi-) realistic look.

Flick the toothbrush bristles over the head/areas you want to add freckles/textures on.

Use a q-tip to remove dots that you don’t like. Since they’re wet, its easy to remove them.

Repeat 4 and 5 until you like it. Take some time between layers to let them dry; yo can also vary the colors you’re using.

Tadaa! Done.

Tips: ▸Don’t do it as I did it -after- you’ve done details like eyebrows/lashes, but before, otherwise you’ll layer the dots over the details.If you want to do it after the detaisl, remember to seal everything before the freckles/texture, so you don’t accidentally remove details when removing small dots with the q-tip.

▸Be aware that even though you can remove dots when they’re dry, they will leave some kind of very faint blushing.

▸Work form a very light color to heavier colors. Pastels mostly look more vibrant when freshly sprayed onto a head, but dim a bit down when drying.

▸On dark heads/tan dolls - freckles will appear faint when dry (even if you’re using dense dark colors), but they WILL pop up after you sealed them. Also applies to some extend on NS/WS heads, just not that obvious.
