It is somewhat remarkable how much can change in a few years: Motoko is not just an EXPLICIT lesbian in the new Ghost in the Shell adaptation, but also a BOTTOM.

They really took EXTRA EFFORT to make this scene SIGNIFICANTLY MORE lesbian as compared to the 2 pages (or rather, 3-4 panels) it had in the original manga:

Imagine having THAT depicted in an anime 20 years ago that would have been - rightfully - presumed to be the iconic flagship show of the entire season, and that purely on the whim of the studio direction without being able to hide behind the source material.

Science Saru really said "I know artists who use subtext and they are all cowards" and proceeded to devote almost two whole minutes of the episode to making sure everyone knows just how much of a lesbian Motoko is. Quite a difference to the intentionally strong asexual depiction in the 90s movie.

I cannot express how much I not only love this, but just how much this was needed!

I am so fucking sick and tired of everyone acting like being a top or a bottom also determines your personality type in all aspects of life. It's a belief that has absolutely saturated the minds of damn near all queer people. So everyone assumes that because I'm a bottom in bed that means I'm submissive everywhere else. And thats how characters are always portrayed in media too.

But here's Major Motoko Kusanagi. The baddass of badass women. She is absolutely fearless in combat, commands a team of spec ops soldiers, and takes absolutely no shit from anybody. Just in bed she's a bottom.

to anyone in the areas impacted by the wildfire smoke, my #1 biggest piece of advice as someone whos been dealing with wildfire smoke in the NW united states for years, is build yourself a Corsi-Rosenthal Cube

they perform as well as expensive HEPA air cleaners, and are comparatively VERY inexpensive. all you need is a box fan, 4 air filters, a piece of cardboard, and some duct tape!!!!

i think it took us maybe a half hour to put ours together, if that, and we replace the filters every 3 months. it's really made a HUGE difference, both when the air quality is bad, but also with our allergies

Also just a handy, DIY air filter in general, if a bit bulky. For a less bulky and cheaper (but also less effective) solution, you can simply tape one filter to the fan, cut a shroud if you'd like.

i have asthma & keep one of these running in my room perpetually. after I set it up the difference in my sleep quality was pretty much night and day. Dont waste your time on proprietary air filters; SIMPLY bust out the duct tape
