Beauford Delaney (1901-1979) | Untitled, Portrait of a Young Man, (c. 1930-35).
Color pastels and charcoal on gray, Textured wove paper, 60 × 45 cm.
The luminous quality of this young man's face, with the yellows and greens that shine, demonstrate Beauford's mastery of realistic rendering and creating relationships between light and his subjects. By the end of the 1930s, Beauford was experimenting almost full-time with light, painting portraits and abstractions where the presence of light was the main focus.

If the Black child is not stimulated adequately in all senses morally, spiritually, intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically from birth, his/her intellectual potential will be arrested in its development. As such, we much treat quality childrearing as the most important element for strengthening the Black family.
