isn't it insane though how schizophrenic people are viewed as violent and dangerous by the majority of society when in reality schizophrenic people are nearly 14 times more likely to be on the receiving end of violence than to be the perpetrators...
schizophrenic person: makes a post trying to raise awareness about the disproportionate abuse and harmful stereotypes schizophrenic people face
yall: "yeah im not gonna reblog this they used the word ins*ne which is so problematic ://"
What the fuck happens that changes these stats to such a massive degree?
1) schizophrenia hardly ever causes people to be violent so schizophrenic people arenāt more likely to be violent than anyone else
2) schizophrenic peopleās autonomy is often taken away from them because of their schizophrenia. because the authorities and mental healthcare providers often automatically assume schizophrenic people to be violent, theyāre more likely to immediately react to schizophrenic people's symptoms with violence, without even knowing for sure said schizophrenic person was going to be violent. all of this causes schizophrenic people to be more likely of being victims of violence and abuse. schizophrenic people also have a harder time getting out of abusive households because of the risk of their autonomy being taken away. if a schizophrenic personās relative or partner is abusive, often the schizophrenic person has no way out of the situation, both because our disconnect from reality can result in us being easier to manipulate, and because the system is built in a way that it takes away our autonomy because of our condition.
also schizophrenic people and psychotic people in general, please do a lot of research before picking a provider for your own sake, and if they try to treat your psychosis in a way that you think is harmful then donāt hesitate to switch providers. your safety and wellbeing should be a priority over everything else.
can y'all please reblog this version instead
#my wife is on the SOR for being gay #no joke #she hit on a girl in a straight bar once #in 1997 #and while the girl was into it #the off duty cop sitting nearby was not #and so he arrested her for āsoliciting homosexual activityā #which in our state was still a felony #in 1997 (and would remain so until Lawrence v Texas in 2003) #and since āsoliciting homosexual activityā was a felony and a sex crime #she got put on The List #she is still on there to this day #because it costs MONEY to ask a judge to take you off #and she has tried four times#since 2003 #to get taken off the SOR #but every time the judge has said something like āno you pled guilty to the crime i canāt possibly take you off the sex offender registryā #with no acknowledgement of what the actual crime was #(the crime of being a butch lesbian hitting on a cute girl who was into it) #(in 1997)
Reposting these tags with consent from the person that wrote them. The post about the Sex Offenders Registry is locked, but these tags are too important to go unnoticed.
Younger queer people need to realize that the SOR being used against queer people simply for being queer isnāt some ancient history thing. It still impacts queer people today. And it can quite easily be used that way again.
Listen!
When you hear people throwing around the talking point of āwell thereās a high rate of sex offenders in the trans/queer communityā, this has to do with why.
Being on the sex offender registry isnāt inherently equivalent to whatever horrific sex crime youāre meant to think of when itās mentioned. It evokes imagery of pedophilia and rape, but there is a lot that can get you put on it and not a lot you can do to be taken off of it.
Public crossdressing used to be able to get you put on the sex offender registry (and by used to I mean as recently as 2011).
Public urination (you know, the literal only option for someone whoās homeless and doesnāt have access to public bathrooms, a venn diagram where trans people are more likely to rest in the meeting zone) can get you put on the sex offender registry.
Sex work is pretty much an automatic way to end up on the sex offender registry if youāre caught. (This is especially weaponized against black trans women who do sex work)
āDeviant Sexual Intercourseā (aka literally any sexual activity aside from penis-in-vagina penetration) could get you on the sex offender registry as recently as the early 2000s. That effectively impacts the entire queer community in one way or another.
The sex offender registry is, first and foremost, useless. It tells you nothing about what someone did. Itās mentioned to quickly associate a person or a group of people with the worst possible crimes imaginable.
It has been used against us time after time and it will continue to be used for that.
Also, it can easily happen to you.
You may be thinking: ābut it is 2025 and I donāt do those thingsā
However, an aside from the fact you should care about other people, the average queer personās internet history* will be sufficient to find some half-baked charge at least, for a motivated cop (and your ISP can usually be subpoenaād to give your history, and probably you havenāt been forensically careful to leave no trace).
*Precisely because there are many things considered āobsceneā by your average judgeās conservative cishet sensibilities, and laws are generally written to allow for judicial interpretation.
If you think Tumblr auto-moderationās idea of what is āpotentially mature contentā is woeful, wait until you find out what a court will consider āobsceneā or ādeviantā or whatever they want you to be today.

Realizing the depression is not seasonal is like: Wow! What a beautiful flower! The birds are singing! I sure do love spring! I think I am fundamentally unlovable as a person.
Though I donāt have a fear of dogs, I find it really sad and disgusting the way the phobia is treated at large. Cynophobia is one of the most common and debilitating phobias and it often forms in childhood, especially after a traumatic event. I grew up in the middle of nowhere with a lot of unleashed, untrained and/or stray dogs and I was bitten and knocked down by several dogs as a kid. Your dog might be your best friend, your dog might be a very good dog but that person may look at your dog and only remember being a helpless 6 year old child with a dogās jaw around their neck. The fear seems irrational and hilarious to you, someone who has had mostly positive interactions with dogs but remember not everyone has lived the life you have.
So many dog owners are practically allergic to doing anything to alleviate human anxiety around their dog, even things that would greatly benefit the dog like keeping it leashed and not bringing it into high stress environments* without cause. If a friend told me they were afraid of cats, Iād tell them it is best we meet outside of my home because that is a completely reasonable accommodation. There are so many horror stories about someone being told another person is afraid of dogs and repeatedly putting them in situations where they have to be in close proximity to a dog without that personās consent because they think itās funny or because āMy dog is such a good dog. Itāll definitely change their mind about dogs. This is like impromptu exposure therapy.ā and it makes everything worse.
Someone being frightened and on the verge of a panic attack at your little Shih Tzu mix may seem like an amusing overreaction to you but those bitches (pun absolutely intended) do bite and the safest thing to do for that person and your dog is to keep them separated. You donāt know what life theyāve lead.
*This post is not about service dog and handler teams. If your dog is a disability aid, it is the responsibility of others to Buck Up and Deal regardless of their opinions on dogs. This is about the epidemic of terrible dog owners taking their poorly trained dogs places and being completely inconsiderate towards others AND their own dog.
RIGHT! Someone saying āDogs are not my thing. Iām a bit nervous around dogs. Iām not fond of them.ā is so different than wishing harm on your dog. Iām a cat owner and Iām very used to people who hate cats saying vile things about them but there really is a stark difference between āI donāt really like cats.ā and āI would love to sic my dog on your stupid fucking cat.ā but many dog owners see anything other than totally loving dogs as a sign the person is inherently evil.
"You're so mean to me!" Uh huh. Take your pants off and bend over the bed.
