The letters he exchanged with male pen pals seemed to be major outlets for his lust and gave him access to arousing photos of them. I agree that there was a major difference between the last frenzied months before his capture and the rigid environment of jail and prison. I’ve often wondered how he was able to cope as well as he did with the sudden lack of sex and alcohol. My guess is that he suffered without them but repressed this feeling. When I would like to know is whether or not he was aroused by reliving his crimes after being captured. He had conditioned himself into similar behavior by using trophies and photos as masturbatory aids. His shame could have suppressed that response once he was captured, though, and the memory might not give him a sufficient feeling of possession to fully arouse him. We lack a lot of insight into his psychology after his capture because he was primarily examined to determine his mental state at the time of the crimes.
