J.K. Rowling actively supports the policies and people responsible for stripping trans people of their rights.

I don’t think we’re going to save the world from tumblr- but I do think we owe it to ourselves and our friends and loved ones to try. Below I’ve attached legislation passed in the last five years in the US and UK that specifically targets trans people. JKR donates money earned from the proceeds and revenue that the potter IP still brings her to groups that actively worked to have this legislation passed.

Being a good ally isn’t just about vocally supporting trans and queer community members- it’s also about harm reduction. As members of the marauders fandom we tend to isolate ourselves and distance ourselves from ‘Harry potter’ fans— but the fact of the matter is, we’re equally culpable in attention (and money) continuing to channel in through the Potter IP.

Recent Anti-Trans Legislation

UK:

• April 2025 – The UK Supreme Court ruled that for legal purposes, “woman” means biological female, excluding trans women from legal protections.

• 2023 – The UK Government blocked Scotland’s Gender Recognition Reform Bill.

• 2023 – A proposal to change the Equality Act to define “sex” as biological was introduced, threatening existing trans protections.

US:

• 2025 – Over 850 anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced in the US; many target trans people directly.

• 2025 – President Trump issued a national ban on trans women in sports, redefining Title IX.

• 2023 – Tennessee banned all gender-affirming medical care for minors.

remember when jkr went full mask off and started acting evil and hp fans were like "ok we need to think carefully about the stuff we consume, how can we justify enjoying this series, how can we love it without supporting the author? should we try to separate art from artist or should we leave it be? isn't showing solidarity to trans folks more important? if we remain openly fans of this series will it show trans people we aren't safe or trustworthy?"

and then they decided that none of those questions really mattered and they continued to uncritically consume their stupid badly written children's books, and jkr has only gotten more nasty and hateful, and people only hate trans folks more, and now the answer to the last question is invariably YES. I don't trust any goddamn person who still loves Harry Potter in 2024 bc you've decided your nostalgia about a mediocre story written by a bigot is more valuable than the safety and wellbeing of trans people 🫶🖕

I should add that some former hp fans did decide to abandon the series because of her and kudos to them! this post is more about the visceral feeling I had walking around a comic con this month and seeing people selling harry potter fanart along with trans and other lgbt pride stuff. like, noooo that's not gonna fly lmao

Marauders fans who gave up on JKR and started writing her characters as trans in fanfics, I will forever love you and 100% agree with you. Of course James Potter is trans / uses they/them pronouns. Of course Sirius es gender fluid/GNC. Of course Remus is trans. Dorcas? Sure. Regulus? Yeah, duh, no shit. It's not like she can do anything about it. Make them all queer. Of course they're all gay. Of course there's not a single character who is cis / straight here. I hope it pisses her off. PLUS you don't give her money by reading fanfics in AO3. Your trans headcanon are canon, because we give a fuck about her canon.

They are so cute

James Potter is at least a little bit in love with all of his friends.

Sirius is his best friend, his soulmate, his other half. They understand each other in a way no else can. Whenever James sees Sirius, his heart soars and he grins because he loves the other boy SO much. Plus he looks hot in a leather jacket. As they were both figuring out their sexuality, they did a practice kiss, which James would have kept going but Sirius pulled back laughing.

Remus makes James finally appreciate the quiet. James is loud and he loves being loud, but he sees the beauty in Moony's quiet. Remus let him borrow a sweater once and he never gave it back. James finds Remus's quick wit and intelligence utterly charming. They kiss during a game of spin the bottle and for a week afterwards neither can make eye contact without blushing

Peter was James' childhood best friend growing up. He looks at Pete and a film of nostalgia covers his sight. Peter's the only one who will never tire of listening to James talk about Quidditch, they could go on all night. They get each other valentine's every year, it started when they were younger and just never stopped.

James Potter's heart is so big, it has room for all of them.

Escape from harsh reality

Good books for me are an escape from reality and into other ppl’s( who r now my ppl) drama. I laugh with them I cry with them even though sometimes they leave me staring at the wall because of some random plot twist I did not see coming. As far book recs go, many are often unappreciated heavily. You may or may not have heard these before but I personally will never stop recommending these istg.

•Harry Potter- JK Rowling- These books were my childhood

Fourth Wing - Rebecca Yarrows- absolutely slow burn 🔥 just read for 13+ * has smut scenes *

Percy Jackson- Pure childhood stuff bro absolute best friends to lovers anyone who hasn’t read this I will shove Medusa’s face into ur face (maybe via mail…)

Throne of Glass - Sarah J Mass-I’ve heard it’s amazing I haven’t actually read it completely yet

Legendborn- Tracy Denonn - Great book! Harry Potter fans will love it many references to other books best friends to lovers troupe

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder-Holly Jackson- a beautiful murder mystery. Mature 11 year olds can handle it. My first mystery series( that was not not Enid ablution) book that I ever read and I fell in love with Ravi

Divergent-Veronica Roth- The first 2 books of the three were pretty decent but then I hated the ending of the third book which kinda ruined the series for me but still a great book

Twin Crowns- Katherine Weber and Catherine Doyle- amazing book it’s about witchcraft probably mature 11 year old + few hot scenes but none too spicy

Heroes Of Olympus- I mean it’s a pretty decent continuation of pjo I personally found the first book boring ,cuz guess why -no Percy .( Spoiler alert ahead)( like if u agree )I bond with everyone who cried when Percabeth fell into Tartarus and sorta boycotted the series for 2 years weeks in their memory cuz poor 12 year old me thought they died. Spoiler alert they didn’t. ( end of spoiler alerts)So YAY. If y’all have any recommendations for me too read pls lemme know in the comment
